Is there an advantage or disadvantage of being a float or relief pilot for Met-trans ?

As a float pilot you work 7&7 with a travel day either side of your hitch and straight time pay for travel. You can do as much OT as you wish. Sim training is usually on your off week, but most other training is done on hitch. Hotels, car hire and airline flights are covered as well as $50 daily for per diem. You get to build airline miles, rentals car and hotel points for personal use. The hard part is killing time between shifts when on the road. You make more money as a float pilot and you get to see a lot of different programs, so you have to be OK with change.

Med Trans is a good company to work for as long as you do your job. They have grown considerably in the last few years and that can be frustrating with last minute changes to training schedules due to less availability.

The one thing that sucks is that they will give you a filthy helmet and act like they are doing you a favor. You get two flight suits to start, and one more every year on your anniversary. If you forget to request a flight suit on you anniversary and ask for one two months late, that becomes your new anniversary month for uniforms. We had a guy rip his last flight suit and was told he could not have another until twelve months after he got the last. Luckily he found a program suit in his size. Things like that make your scratch your head when you see how much money the blow on other things.

I have worked for most of the big players in the industry and still prefer Med Trans Corp. Hope this helps.

I was and lost with them for years.  The sched is correct and you get travel pay on both ends of your hitch. So it is more like a 5/9 sched.  You get $12k MORE a year as well stipend (not ot) as a float over other pilots.  Exactly what traveling you'll have to get used to programs but most of the time they'll keep you at the same base until it's filled. But if you're having issues they'll move you on. You'll learn a ton of airline points and also hotel points and car rental points.

as with the flight suits it's like that with most companies. If you rip it or damage it or even fluctuate in your weight or you need a bigger, smaller Flight suit they'll make you pay for it and I've worked for PHI, AMC and MTC. medTrans is definitely a lot better then the other companies just the fact that they're paying you more and you do get a higher stipend of $50 a day for meals on average my monthly expense check was probably about $1200-$1300 reimbursed to me.

This never happened with the flight suit,  How do I know?  Because I am the one who gives them out.

Also, pilots get brand new helmets.  How do I know?  Because I am the one who gives them out.
