Like many places and jobs the base I work at continues to be micro-managed by a person 2 tiers above the line pilot. CONSTANTLY sending out notes, emails and texts reminding us line pilots on how to do our job. Nothing is being done wrong, incorrect or even the good ole "unsafe" title. Just a person with nothing else to do so he sends out the "hey dummies" messages. Why are so many leaders not leaders at all. |

Maybe it was someone else who did something and the guy doesn't want to single him out and sends an all hands message? One possible explanation, but I have no context.
Another might be that his boss said tell crews....
'maybe there's a common mistake folks are making, and you're not one of them...but others need the reminder.
micromnaging, for a pilot, would be something like being in the cockpit telling you which decisions to make. An email is just annoyance management. |

they are pilots masquerading as managers thinking being a pilot means knowing everything under the sun. Pretty naive stuff but it's been that way since helicopters 'hit the scene'. Screws up a great deal of effort to realistically deal with issues and take the industry forward. Developed in to a helicopter culture based on good ol' boy' gang behavior. Watched it since the early 70s. Those few who successfully bucked this culture and got things done were vilified though I doubt they paid it much attention. Lot of ex-military involved. True. Things are changing based on a better balance of educated civil and military pilots. |

Airlines are down to @30% ex military and doing fine. So much for the neurotic fascination with ex military pilots. |
