Certainly has a bad disqualifying medical condition that he lied about. Most military disabilities are for non disqualifying medical issues not worth the time and effort of the FAA to track

True that!  I have VA disabilities that totaled 240% when I left the military.  100% of which was for a cancer which occured while in the service.  I had to wait a year post chemotherapy (i.e. "in remission") to apply for my FAA medical.  When I did, I answered all the questions truthfully.  For the first few years (5 i think, but could be wrong), I needed a letter from my VA Dr saying I was still cancer free.  Anyway, the point is I get my FAA 1st or 2nd Class Medical (depending on the job I've have) every year.   I simply answer the question "yes' and put PRNC (previously reported, no change) in the remakes section of the medical form and have never had a problem with the FAA.

Still 100% P & T with the VA and the FAA knows that.  None of my issues are medically disqualifying for them.  For those of you who want to call ne names, go ahead.  I don't care.  As a recent meme I saw said, that recruiting office was open to everybody.  Oh, and you didn't get shot at or have to leave your families for extended peiords of time, miss birthdays and holidays, or have to deal with any of the other silliness the rest of us did. Say what you want, IMHO we earned everything we're getting.

Similar experience here. Navy Rescue Swimmer/private pilot, wound up having to take a medical discharge for lower back injuries (no retirement, I only had 17 years in). Took the severance cash and got my commercial/CFI rotorcraft and started working. Filled out the forms for a 2nd class medical, answered all the questions truthfully. ME happened to be an osteopath, gave me a full back study right there in his office and signed me off. Never had to apply to Oklahoma City for a waiver. Same thing every year since, no issues. Retiring in two weeks, no regrets. Just tell the truth. You either get a pass, jump though some hoops to get cleared, or you don't make the cut. Do you really want to risk your career on the chance that the Federales are going to find out you lied? Not worth the heartburn, IMO.
