New to this gig and wondering if per diem is taxable. Does it show up on W2 as income or not. What to tell tax prepayer?

don't respond. there are a ton of pilots getting per diem and we know the answer

It depends on how it get's added to your check. If it's an addition to the check or a negative deduction. I would just ask the person doing your taxes. They should know.

You will be taxed only on the amount about that allowed by the IRS. If its not clear on your W2 be sure to point it out to your tax person

Get paid as a 1099 employee.  The company will normally pay you in full and you will be required to pay your taxes.  So don't spend it all in one place.
