Gents,

My 20 year term life with USAA is set to end in a few months.

Any pilots my age that have  found coverage to include commercial flying ?

Thanks  for the help !

Do you still need any kind of sizable payout?

Instead of getting insurance you can cover the costs out of pocket. I e. If you had 6 months of expenses saved up you could afford to go without short term disability, because you've already got the money saved. Life insurance is usually held to cover funeral expenses at a minimum, and replace someone's income for their spouse and/or children at higher levels. At 60, I would think you'd be close enough to retirement that your assets would be such that you wouldn't need a big payout for your dependants.

Ok, I didn't want to I overshare.

Second family with very young wife and young kids .

That and too much time as a bottom feeder = not a great financial position.

AOPA is who I ended up getting mine through. Had a policy through work and one through AOPA to make up what I wanted. Eventually migrated away from work and went all in AOPA. Even with the cost of membership it was the cheaper option, although they just raised rates on their "term" plan.

Good luck.

I'm 64 with a 40 year old wife, 2.5 year old son and 6 mo old daughter.  My 20 yr term runs out in a couple of years.  I'm not planning to get any more lie insurance, but who knows.  Please let us know how things go.  BTW, I'd think the AOPA route is probably the most viable.  Good luck!

the same thing.  When it lapsed we had enough such that my presence wasn't required financially.

Suggest being conservative and PAYGo in to retirement accounts, and, make sure you know where your monthly income is going to come from once required.  Just having a load of money sitting in a brokerage account is definitely not the answer.
