When Med-Trans left NJ they gave us pilots 6 weeks notice, and a bonus/severence pay to stay till the last day of service.

Then you had the option of taking a job somewhere else in the company.

If you decided against taking another company job they did not contest unemployment.

Agree.  Bases open and close. It's the nature of our buisness.  I've worked at 2 bases that closed and have been opportunities to go somewhere else or severance. Those are with two different operators. It's the name of the game

Inverness FL. They refused to fly for a whole month before they closed because they were so traumatized by the whole situation. PHI paid everybody for a month so they could sit around and sulk like children. Might as well give EMS cry baby crews severence and cut them loose THAT DAY.

I work for a competitor. we knew 3 weeks ago that Bluntstown and Milton were closing on 1/9/24. The rumor mill even included the planned date of closing. The big surprise is that Perry wasn't closed. Perry wasn't included in the base closing rumors. Somebody on the inside was talking for us to have gotten the specific info that we heard.

I was once told by the CEO of a major HAA operator that the reason operators were "less than candid" (his words, not "lied to" or "dishonest with" the staff, I swear to God!) was because they would all leave if they know what the "real plans were," and leave the operator with "a problem."  Can you say selfish?  I knew you could.

I explained to him that I owned my own business for a decade before I sold it, and was honest with my staff (3 FT and 5 PT employees) about selling to get back into aviation.  I treated them right during the 2 months the sale took.  I left them take paid time to go interview for other jobs, etc., and paid them each 1 months severance for every year they wer with me.  My Ops Mgr I paid a years severance.  All but 2 of the PT people where there the last day, and I took everyone out to dinner that evening as a way of saying thank you.

He told me, "that would never work IN THE REAL WORLD."  Which led me to wonder what "world" he thought I had been in, or if he just thought I was lying.  Either way, that's exactly what happened.

or the most part, people are basically good, honest, faithful and hard working.  Treat them right, and they will treat you right too!  Corporate America has lost sight of that.  Now employees are just numbers that affect the bottom line; and stock holders are more important than the people who make your business run!

You describe closing a business, not selling it. For that reason, I say:

made up that bullsh*t story about dad's cancer battle which was harder on him than on dad lol. remember when he met dads doctor 20 years later at a party and the doctor told him nobody knew anything about cancer.

didn't shut down.  Just went from a hybrid to community based program.
