Hello, serious question.  Ive been an EMS pilot for awhile, and I am concerened about the long term health benefits of the job.  What are you guys doing for sleep schedules and eating patterns?  Im working the normal 7/7.  I aim to be flying EMS for the next 10 years.

I sleep as much as I can at work on nights and make up what I need during the day.

I aim for 8 hours of sleep in any combination during a 24hr day. I try my best to stay diurnal. 

Eat healthy ish, drink a ton of water and i do a lot of cardio.....run, bike, CrossFit. 

I work out on duty when i can.

I think you nailed it. Sleep when you can at work, get the rest after shift. Eat as well as you can, exercise, and the biggest thing for me was to keeep hydrated. Makes a world of difference.

eat and sleep when you can. and always stop drinking when you pass out.

 

seriously...long term health pattern worries? where are they getting you guys nowadays?

...you know what they call a helicopter pilot who worries about dying of cancer--? "An optimist."
