To clarify, helicopter pilots get paid REGIONAL FO (SIC) rates.

As a FO at a legacy carrier, I will make 240k this year.  Not to many of my former rotor bubbas will make that.

RTAG convention is this weekend, come check it out!

How many years did you have to live in a crap big city and get the run around until you earned the "claimed" ammount. Along with how much of your training loan have you paid back?

I'm sure he's struggling under the weight of a training loan at 240k. I'm bet you're not going to like his other answer either. Now tell us he has to travel.

You might want do do some research.  Come to the RTAG convention and Lear for yourself.

The initial crap pay at the regional level is no more.  Many of the regionals offer 90k to start with a 30k signing bonus to help with training loans some might have.

many of our RW brothers have skipped the regional life and started directly at Spirit, Frontier, Atlas, etc.

it's a different world out there, and with the big raises recently negotiated at the legacies, the pay and work rules keep getting better.

cheers

I didn't have a training loan.  Uncle sugar paid for my FW training and experience through the GI Bill I earned through service.

I live an hour from Houston, and have never lived "in a crap big city"

I have no idea what you are implying with "the run around" but Ive never been abused in the FW world like I was flying offshore or living in the desert on my 3rd deployment.

you do you, but at least do some research before you judge my career decisions.

cheers

Congrats on your career choice and your impressive salary. If I was 10 years youger I would go down that road, but at 56 I'm looking forward to retirement from HAA in 4 years.

I'm a Robbie trained ATP who spent about $80k on training and now make 6 figures. I'm a millionaire nearly twice over due to driving the same vehicle for 10 years and investing well in my 401K and some property. No regrets, would have liked to try the airlines but conditions were bad when I tried.

Live witin your means and save anything thats left over at the end of the month after you pay off the credit card. I was an immigrant to the USA with no money and no support but followed my dream.

Don't listen to the whiners.

Never lived in a crappy big city, I did live in dismal trailer in houma flying offshore For far less starting than I got year one at my airline. No training cost, left the army flying rotor and let unlce sam send me back to Air Force flight school To get my stuck wing transition. Drill in the air guard is even better than the army. All nice hotels no tents! To each their own but financially today it is a hard sell to tell a young pilot to pursue a helicopter career.
