Over the next 4 years UAL will disperse $10.2 Billion for their pilots. I guess it truly pays to be a glorified bus driver.

F-ing go already. Management doesn't care about posts hinting that helicopter pilots might go to airlines.

Airlines=passengers pay up front for transport entirely based on the exact margin a flight will earn, it changes hourly

HAA= maybe payment will come. Largely based on unknowing, un-informed or unconscious passengers.

Airlines pay pilots better on the known, not the maybe. With the government finally acting on predetor billing in medical the HAA  biz isn't lucrative anymore

Airline pilots get paid by the  hour, from parking brake release to parking set.  Yes, they get per diem and a few other things too.

Last year I flew 130 hours and made about $150000 (I worked a lot of OT), so that works out to about $1150/hour.  No airline pilot makes that.  But mostly what I get paid for is waiting (watching netflix, playing video games, etc.), not flying.

If three helicopter pilots were asked which direction the sun rises you would get two different answers. The third guy would have to google it first.

Helicopters that carry 150-400 people, helicopter pilots won't ever make close to the airlines pilots.  Having said that, if you are paying for the risk factor, helicopter pilots should be paid higher than airline pilots.  The majority of helicopter pilots are single engine with many often times operating over terrain where there is no where to go if the engine quits, don't fly to/from big runways, most outside of EMS and offshore twins don't have autopilots, many jobs require off airport landings sometimes at night depending on the industry, are single pilot, don't have a dispatcher doing your W&B and flight planning, are not on an IFR flight plan for virtually every flight and talking to ATC; etc.

The bottom line is helicopter pilots will accept any bone that is thrown their way. If you dont take it, somebody else will. Airline pilots also started at the bottom of the food chain long ago and together, union or not they pushed ahead and got the compensation they wanted because they knew strength in numbers was to their advantage.

Customers play helicopter companies like fine tuned fiddles and balk at every measure to increase rates and will jump at the next lowest bidder to take the current ones place. These operators cut each others throats to the point of losing money so someone else cant take the work. Plenty of blame to go around in our industry and the fingers are always pointed at the other guy.

What a great way to make living.

Your argument is totally flawed.

If the wage per hour vs paid up front was the determining factor.

What about the military? Public Use? Fixed wing Charter?

Your argument does not hold water.
