Mention that in your interview and get laughed right out the door. no utility operator can survive just in their own state, that's stupid. You go where the work is. if you arnt able to do the schedule there are 15 others who can. Don't think you're special. They would rather have an OK pilot who's average at best who can barely do that job but is willing to be out for long periods of time than someone who cries each time they have to go get on an airline to the job. |

Im not too concerned with that drone stuff. Was just probing for job culture on the utility side. Seems like the "cool" job comes at the expense of your family. There are people for that. It won't be me, but I won't criticize those who prioritize their careers. To each their own. One life. |

You can't have a family in this industry.
Name one mechanic, Pilot, or otherwise in the helicopter industry who has been married at least 15 years with 15 years of working with helis.
It don't exist.
You can't divide your time like that.
Eventually she will leave with Jody......on one of those extended work hitches you decide to take. |

I've been with the same woman 15 years. She met me traveling 21/21 and I still do. We make the best of my home time and be sad when I leave but money is good and I'll probably retire within 5 years. |

I'm certainly an exception to your rule. It hasn't always been easy, but, you've already written your rule. Woops. |

I'll be the first to burst your bubble. Human External Cargo will never be drones. Linemen have a lot of trust in pilots that move them around on a line and will never go for some man bun with an ipad flying them remotely.
Of course wire pulling and ladder hanging will also never be successful remotely. |

PJ Helicopter primarily works in California. They do work anywhere but being the top operator for Pacific Gas & Electric they have plenty of localish work |

pj pays construction precision long line rates similar to power line patrol rates as if you had a living expense in Alabama. This place is embarrassing. Who would work for such wages? Please educate me ! |

Yup, talked with a guy flying those belly mounted camera things in an old 206 with intermittent AC and the pay he mentioned was OK but I wouldn't say justified the job/schedule.
Slave labor at that point. Would gladly take HAA over that and still make same pay with 2 OT's a month. |

Typical USFS CWN- Day one is Uber to the airport, fly to city nearest location of the aircraft. Rental car to the aircraft. Person you are relieving takes car back to airport to go home. Spend 12 days with the crane.Relief flies in and drives rental car to you. You go home for 12 days. Wash, rinse, repeat. All expenses were paid by operator. |
