Just watched Nova Carbon zero episode.

They decided to take a F150 EV from Boston to Maine road trippin.  Epic Fail.  Round trip took them twice as long as it would had they just driven a Petrol vehicle.  They even highlighted that fact point blank in the show.  Even showed the host of the show struggling with charging stations that were out of service, incompatable stations, I.E. tesla chargers that wont charge fords.....and overall lack of charge service few and far between.  Then with the dream-o-meter range gauge on the truck....he almost ended up walking with only 18 miles to go left in the tank....at Midnight driving around town looking for a place to charge.....probably ended up sleeping in the truck with the mosquitoes.

The future is indeed stupid.

The grid can't/won't support the oncoming load,

And the Earth won't tolerate the future idiocracy.....nice knowing you, the human species is doomed.  I say good riddance.

Most charging stations are at the back of parking lot areas where no cameras are compared to gas stations. People driving expensive EVs look like they have money alright (especially Tesla drivers and the new EV trucks). Definitely recipe for criminals to take advantage of.

Most major automakers are adopting the North American Charging Standard starting in 2025. As the polularity of EV's grows, so too will the charging network. The grid can't handle the oncoming load? I guess that's it then, we'll never be able to update the grid, right? It's just unworkable, how would we possibly do that? The grid will never get any better. Guess we better just give it up now, huh?

The grid is always being improved. I work on it everyday. The grid isn't being built or improved fast enough. A good example is the Gateway project. 500 miles of new wire to bring wind energy from Wyoming wind farms to Salt Lake, Vegas, and California eventually. Been in the works 10 years and the demand already exceeds the projects potential.

Hey, I'm no fan of EV's, but even I am not totally pessimistic about them. Yes, the number of EV's on the road will overwhelm the electrical grids in some states.  And it's true that there currently is no standard in charging facilities. Many/most don't even have canopies to hide under if you have to charge when it's raining. And finally, the advertised range of these EV's may be...umm..."optimistic."

But, speaking of being optimistic, that doesn't mean things won't change. Electrical grids will be improved, there will be more charging stations built, and a standard U.S. plug/system will emerge. Remember the competition between Sony's Betamax videotape format and VHS? We saw which one won. So yeah, right now, the successful implementation of EV's depends a lot upon where in the country you live. A trip from NY to LA would not only be stressful but would take a LOT longer than doing it in an ICE vehicle. That's today. Tomorrow, things will get better. We have to have faith and hope for the future, or we'll just be a bunch of sour, anti-everything pessimists.
