Had to stop in New Zealand for two weeks for high altitude training on my way down to McMurdo Station, Antarctica for two seasons. 

HAA in Northern AZ.  LZs between 9K ft and 10K ft were not common, but not unusual.  There were times I had to have the med crews hook me up to the O2 for a while just to stay legal.   

Unless you landed ontop of the SF peaks and stayed there for an hour you'd have to be riding at 3k agl to need oxygen in AZ.

It is very challenging there at night though I'll give you that. Very little reference 

Hey Fake News Jiss Swallower, did I say I did it during the day?  Nope!  It was pre NVG days, or NIGHTS to be more precise, and I routinely went to 13K, 14K or even 15K so as NOT to find any rock solid darkness.  Maybe you should get clarification instead of assuming things that just aren't accurate.  Oh, and I don'd recall the FARs ever referencing "AGL" altitudes when it comes to Supplemental Oxygen, only MSL.  You know, like 12,500 MSL to 14,000 MSL for more than 30 minutes, the minimum Flt Crew for 14,000 MSL and everybody on board for 15,000 MSL.

Alps during the military days, Rockies in the civ world. 

So your best mtn flying experiences were unaided over the desert....

Heli-ski in Jackson Hole was good fun. Drop offs routinely above 10k, so really not that tall. The pickups @ 7-8k were more challenging starting out. The flying was in a standard 407.

The Sierra's were fantastic during fire season... picking water in glacial lakes above 11k in a crane is/was a blast. 

My humble opinion is any national park is incredible flying... Glacier, Yosemite, North Rim of the ditch, Yellowstone is a massive favorite.

Although, Colorado and especially northern NM, Angel Fire area is incredible - cannot discount the Cascades either. The methow valley is killer flying. And anyone getting an opportunity to work in the Wasatch Range gets a real treat.

Surely there's a guys/gals that work in taller country and fly in it on a routine basis. Being able to learn/read the wind, take in the cues and ultimately fly in that environment like a bird is an art. A good pilot is always learning which is a challenge when most of us sit on our ass, day in and day playing the waiting game.

Flying Chinooks in the Andes Mountains.  Serious turbulance.  Operating out of Quito for a while.  10000 feet with ridges all around a minimum of 15000 feet.  Flying around a 20,000 foot volcano with snow on it, on the equator.  Never went up there though.

Stationed in Germany, flying around Bad Tolz and the Alps near Austria and Switzerland

Landed on Pikes Peak.  14,115'.
