I guess that really gets to the heart of the union/anti-union issue. A pompous, arrogant pilot with delusions of grandeur feels that he is the best in the business, that he can negotiate his own deal, and doesn't need any old union to speak for him. Compared to himself, someone who is pro-union is just a "mediocre" pilot. |

There has'nt been an industry unionized that didn't deserve a union due to the companies treatment of employees. The helicopter industry is a perfect example. The wages and conditions being experienced today are a direct result of the formation of unions, even if the company you work for isn't unionized. I've being in this profession for 30 years. The improvements in pay and benefits are tied directly to the establishment of pilot unions. |

Welcome back Slick ! The Union can work well for the group...not for the individual, especially when there is politics at play. Reps will always throw the individual under the bus to protect themselves or whatever is the most expedient and if your the individual ...It isn't you. |

You might read "Flying The Line" it is a great aviation history book as well as the history of ALPA. The early aviators had huge balls and flew in conditions that would make you run for your safe space. Those pioneer saw the need for a pilot union and I'm greatful for their sacrifices for our industry. |
