Automatic massive investment by company in your retirement, 200 to 500k salary, jump Seat privileges, prestige of flying for the airlines, respect from your peers, loss of medical insurance etc etc |

Unbelievable deposit in your 401K, premium health plans, you eventually get to bid on amazing schedules so you can actually choose when you want to be off (and not need to worry about someone covering your shift so you can have the day or whole hitch off).
Eventually get to only working 10 days a month (and still make ridiculous bank), comparable OT/extra shifts pay thousands (plural) and no pressure from management to take them.
Lose your medical in HAA world you're on your own after sick leave up (or continue to make 60% of crappy pay while on disability); can't remember specifics for airline guys but union folks have made an AMAZING deal for grounded pilots. You're also set for life if it becomes permanently grounding.
Free jump seat for self and for family tickets you only pay tax. For life if you retire I believe.
Worth every bit of pain at Regional for 2-3 years, then the first 1-2 years at the Legacy or LCC.
Can't compare to helicopter world. Completely different world and a VIP life in comparison. |

exactly what he said!!! No way I'd ever have the benefits I have today versus HEMS. The 401ks in the helo industry are a complete joke, pay as well. Hope y'all sleep nice tonight at the base knowing a 24 yr old is making 150-170k year 2 or 3 at his legacy carrier. Year one at a regional is 90-100k with kids having 750 TT ! Yes gramps, 23-24 yr olds are now at legacies!! Every day you dont make the jump is another day of less seniority! |

45 with kids and fairly set life (no freedom to move at this point).
Yes, first 3-5 yrs can suck in airplane world. Difference is that those same years suck in helicopter world but in airplane world your pay and benefits go up, and up, and up. Quality of life improves. Benefits improve.
Helicopter world they plateau and to not have them plateau you have to compromise severely in comparison.
Airplane world has some form of job at every little FBO nationwide and many more options in general to choose from that don't compromise quality of life.
Would you tell your kids to do the same job you did when you saw someone doing almost the exact same type of job for WAY better pay and benefits? Of course not. |

I'm friends with a Frontier FO. He spent years getting to an FO job. Good benefits but he makes less than I do powerlining. He's been a FO 4 years now. |

it sure as hell doesn't take years to get a FO job at frontier anymore and who in the hell wants to do that power line nonsense all day. in 5 years the guy will be making double what you're while you risk your life everyday in a crappy 500 |
