Have it in our EC135. Company won't pay for the sat phone dialer feature, so you can't just dial a phone number. Instead we have talk groups programmed to contact, (satellite to internet connection) kind of like the old Nextel push to talk system. Problem is usually no one listening so it is our last resort for communication. |

Yeah, we have it with programmed talkgroups. Never tried it with the phone feature. But, it works okay about 40% of the time. Most of the time it's so garbled or intermittent that you can't really communicate effectively. When I'm on the ground, I'll try to contact our com center once. If it doesn't work or too garbled, I'll take off and then use the VHF radio when I'm high enough. Not worth the extra effort to try and get it to work. If you are airborne and trying to use it, it is usually significantly worse. |

@PHI, this is a dead on accurate description of the performance of Iris across the board from the perspective of a dipsbatcher that has visibility of more than just a couple of different tail #s. The whole system is trash. The old Outerlink wasn't great, but as far as functioning as designed/advertised, it was almost perfect in comparison. |

Works pretty well in some ac. Others not so great. It's super quiet in one of ours and the rep said it's likely a grounding issue. My mech then said it'll probably never get fixed.
So, who to blame? Iris, or my company's maintenance. |
