One state sells weed legally another does not and it's federally illegal. What are your guys thoughts on 135/91 operators doing randoms?

my 2 cents, the feds should just legalize it and stop mandating the tests, besides pre employment. The lines between cbd pain care and thc are blurred...Colorado and other states even sell weed infused food at their restaurants for Christ sake.

Alcohol is legal in every state. Doesn't mean you can have that in your system while at the controls. What's so hard to understand here? Legal or not doesn't mean its accepted. Own it like a professional and lay off of the hookah!

If you are going to use any of that stuf, don't fly. It's that simple.

On another note, what about the big push to allow these products so states could make a killing on tax income. Now Colarado is saying it's costing the State more in health care costs related to abuse and negative health effects, than they take in from canibus realted product sales. Go figure.

You can consume alcohol up to 8 hrs before flying or maint. So why not the other stuff? I believe that was op's point.

Federal law prohibits the drug use. It is illegal everywhere in the Federation. Colorado's choice to not enforce federal laws does not make the drug use legal.

There is no federal law against prostitution, but it is illegal is all but a few counties in Nevada. So, a flying cathouse would be legal is the "federal air" over every state.

Your privileges are federally certificated. Bummer, Dude.

Not a pothead here. Just advocating for pre employment tests only. Too easy these days to accidentally be next to the many pot heads that abound and catch second hand smoke. Or order an appetizer with the crap in it. Also cbd is plant derived and much better than opioids.

The U.S has always had a strange relationship with weed. First of all, it grows naturally, so it's not a manufactured "drug." But it was classified as a drug. Alcohol (beer and spirits) are not naturally-occurring. We'll give wine a pass because it sort of makes itself - rum doesn't. Many people equate smoking weed to dropping acid. That just makes them sound dumb and uneducated. Not every pot-smoker is a stoned-out hippy. The guys who taught me to fly were Viet Nam vets and some of them admitted that on the way home from a mission, everyone in the helicopter would light up. In the present-day I've known Utility pilots who like to take a little "binger" before going flying. I don't condone it. It's their career. Someone I know reportedly got fired when he was smoking a joint in the living room of the crew house and the Chief Pilot walked in. Oops!

Nobody has ever overdosed on weed. Weed does not affect your driving ability like alcohol does. Weed doesn't send you into a hallucinogenic state. It doesn't make you aggressive like alcohol does. Weed makes you mellow. Guys don't go out to weed bars, get high and then get into fights with other stoners over stupid sh!t. And they don't crash their cars on the way home. And they don't beat their wives in a weed-fueled rage. Remember, Jamaica has never invaded any other country.

The "problem" with weed is that it's an intoxicant but there is no side-of-the-road test to tell if you've been smoking. Urine samples, yeah, but it's not like the police can say, "Here, step out and pee in this cup, sir. Go behind that bush if you need to." If you got stoned at home and neither you nor your vehicle smelled like pot, the cop would have to have some serious other probable cause to take you in and make you give a urine sample. "Officer, my eyes are bloodshot from reading all the stupid posts on JH this evening."  "Ohhhh, I understand.  Okay, you're free to go. Oh! And by the way, stay offa PPRUNE, that'll make you look stoned AND stupid!" "Yes, thank you officer, it's just OnlyFans for me from now on!"

Between alcohol and weed, alcohol should be the one that's illegal. But don't you dare try to take away my Bud Light! ...Errr, I mean Mich Light! That's it, yeah, Mich Light. Bud Light? Never touch the stuff. I hear that it makes you the geigh.

The guys who taught me to fly were Viet Nam vets and some of them admitted that on the way home from a mission, everyone in the helicopter would light up.

Maybe in some units, but not mine and none I ever flew with. Period. I freakin' hated folks stateside asking me about the dope in country.

My company had one stoner pilot who never made aircraft commander even when 2 month guys were flying 'first pilot' because we were short of ACs. The stoner disappeared about 2 months into my tour, some investigations into 'irregular' incidents on his flghts. I suspect he was told he couldn't stay in company without facing some disciplinary action. Transferring a disciplinary case...

And one couldn't mix stoners and juicers in the same perimeter bunkers, and never, ever put in a stoner in the perimeter tower.  The stoners would toke up and the juicers, uh- violently resented that. The officer standing guard had to be constantly on the move.

An aside- Tet offensive, bad guys inside the perimeter- had a drunk off duty pilot take Cobras out of the revetments while the bad guys were still on the flight line, and put strikes on'em- the first guy to fly. The CO didn't know if he should take disciplinary action or cite his 'conduct above and beyond'. I think the result was a silver star...

And, yes- You can overdose on cannabis. Usually not life threatening but serious disruption of your intellect.

Marijuana Overdose Symptoms & Signs

While rare, a marijuana overdose is still possible in some cases. An overdose could have an impact mentally, affect the heart, and lead to pale skin. Signs and symptoms of weed overdose might include:1,2

  • Extreme anxiety or panic attacks.
  • Psychotic reactions, in which someone loses touch with reality or becomes paranoid, sometimes in the form of hallucinations, delusions, or a loss of personal identity.
  • Decreased judgment, perception, and coordination that can lead to injuries or even death.
  • A fast heart rate, chest pain, or heart attack.
  • Uncontrollable shaking or seizures.
  • Pale skin color.
  • Unresponsiveness.
  • Sudden high blood pressure with headache.

When symptoms are severe, get medical attention—call 911 or drive to the nearest emergency room—to ensure that the person overdosing is monitored for complications and dangerous side effects.

Noticeable side effects of smoked marijuana may last for 1 to 3 hours, while the effects of marijuana consumed in food (known as edibles) or drink may last for several hours.

Sooooo, if you think you're overdosing on weed, you're supposed to DRIVE YOURSELF to the nearest ER??

I guess I should have said, "Nobody has ever died from smoking too much weed."

So many say "not in my unit" guess what that doesn't mean sh@t. Your unit had idiosyncrasies, every unit had them. Vietnam units used mary j period. And no judgement. It was a different time. Pilots should never fly high In todays industry. But in todays USA we shouldn't be randommed either.

Excepting that single pilot, who never had aircraft commander, nobody toked up, PERIOD. Weed has a distinctive aroma, in building with cubicles as rooms sharing a common ceiling, one would have noticed that smell. It didn't happen.

What happened 'downtown', off-base is a whole 'nother question, but nobody, repeat nobody appeared smelling of smoke or showing signs of cannabis. Period. Alcohol? Yeppers, definitely. But almost no weed, at least in the flight crews. We had more discipline problems from racism than dope.

I was not a grunt and never had a ground assignment, but flight crews in 1969-70 wanted to be 100% on the ball, clear minded and present in their duties. We weren't heroes but we worked hard every day we flew and pushed the envelope often enough that pilots avoided all extemporaneous challenges. Skipping along kissing the ground with a low-rotor beeping at you was not at all unusual. Stupid was quickly weeded out.

Losing a flight assignment or possibly one's wings encouraged abstenance far more effectively than potential legal issues. Remember, it was a 10-1, 20-1 challenge to get a flight school slot and somewhere north of 50% washed out of those slots. In flight school and in-country, going weeks with a couple hours sleep a night was enough of a problem...

After seperating from the service I was interviewed regarding the toker pilot possibly being charged with war crimes... Wasn't charged that I know of and I had no direct knowledge of the incident but that's indicative of the judgement he displayed.  I suspect it's called 'dope' because it exagerates 'dopey' tendencies.  He once brought his C&C slick in covered in self-administered M79 shrapnel holes. That, I do have direct knowledge of.

I was in the drug wars in the southern american regions, but now I do cbd/thc gummies every day to help mitigate my nerve pain from MS! Best thing I ever did! Much healthier than the opiods without destroying your liver! Perfectly fine during the day, ONLY take it at around 8:00 PM to help me sleep through the night! have taken it a few times during the day, but talk about a motivation killer! No wonder Stoners are so worthless and no ambition! I HATE getting "High" off this crap! ONLY take what is needed for a restful nights sleep! Can't stand the high feeling, just ruins your motivation and clear thinking! That's why when I'm under the influence, I'm asleep!
