No way you could keep that a secret with that many people involved, esp the astronauts themselves. John Glenn would have been the exception. The others, no way.

My uncle was a machinist on the project. It was very carpentalzied. Each team member was handed a specific  build plan, which by itself, meant nothing to the fabricator. Though there were friendships and they understood they were working on a weapon,  no one new who might be a mole so it was in their best interest to leave your 'work' in the shop/lab. Side story, he met his future wife there and made their home in Los Alamos where he worked at the nuclear facility till his retirement.

thousands of people could have been working on bits and pieces, never shown the whole picture.....in that room, you know....with the big picture.

Then only a few at the top call the shots.  Know the real deal...what's going on.  Call in the crew and threaten them with the lives of their families or what have you.....even ww3 if we don't declare we got there before the Russians....sworn to secrecy and took it with them to the grave.  all for the betterment of a nation.  just to come out on top and rub Russias nose in it.  Then later Russia collapses.  Congrats, mission accomplished.  Now we can work on really going to the moon, and building a base there, but first we have to figure out how to safely traverse the van allen belts without cooking astronauts.

I vote some sort of strong electro magnetic field around a ship....sort of like the earth has....maybe use super conducting hyper cooled coils or whatnot.  We can build it in low earth orbit and make it massive like the Yamato Battle ship or something. Just don't have it phase into and out of existance like a Philly experiment.  In low earth orbit you can still look back at earth, protected by earths shielding....even thru a window what with a camera set back and the lights down, and a cutout showing one hemisphere of the earth lit up, and film that and say you are I don't know, half way between the Moon and the Earth....on your way to the moon.  There's tons of tips and tricks used in industrial light and magic......

I pride myself on having seen every bond film, some several times.  You know what film I've not seen that much of?  Diamonds are Forever.

Why is that?  Could it be it is never aired on all the old movie channels?  Why is that?  Could it be that it's been black listed by the Networks because it shows a scene where bond crashes the villans base where they are fliming on a soundstage a lunar land scape, with astronauts walking around a lander, he then steals the lunar rover and crashes it right thru the wall of the fliming studio, and leads the bad guys on a chase thru the Nevada desert?

I had to download that film because you won't ever see it aired on any US tv station.  Why is that I wonder...

Note: As some commenters have pointed out, Armstrong didn't flub the line – the vowel was lost in transmission. Score one for old-fashioned tech! Like hand-colored photographs and vinyl records, space communications are much improved by a few scratches and pops.

What I find more dammmmming, is the fact that he had a famous line to recall and utter at the moment he stepped off the ladder in the first place.  Why not have it just be organic.  Why have a rehersal?  Why have a line at all.  Let's just enjoy the moment and hope we don't sink in quick sand or step in a cow pie.

It was all filmed for show, to win the cold war and beat the russians.

the man Fleming based most his films on.  Kudos for the right answer.

Hint:  His biography came out in 1979 and a signed copy now goes for @$1,500.  Most go for @$300 - 800 or more.

We can't build electric cars here on the earth today that don't burst into flames.

You think I'm gonna believe they sent an electric car, on a violent exploding rocket that shakes itself to death

on every launch.....and that electric car didn't catch fire as soon as they reached orbit?

Come on bro,

Typically, the average moon hoaxer has done tons more research than the average potatoe.  Hence the reason why he's a hoaxer.  The blind, head in the sand, potatoe believes anything and everything the government claims.....and the hoaxer questions everything.  And then researches, and finds evidence that far outweighs any facts presented by the establisment, that something is amiss.

Not concerned with your dinosaur reference.

I know how potato is spelled.

The slang potatoe with an e is slang insult for brainless bots who can't think and breath at the same time who play games online like world of warships, and all they do is mash the trottle full and sail broadside to battleships right through the middle of the map.  Quickly sent back to the lobby.  Hence potatoe, kinda like the average low IQ helo pilot who thinks DME should pick up 134NM out when flying only 4k above sea level.
