If you're ANYWHERE close to retirement and noticing how things set you off, frustrate you, the company has gone down the tube, etc. then JUST RETIRE ALREADY. You probably shoulda retired 5 years ago I bet. In the meantime, you're only increasing your blood pressure and annoying everyone else who has to put up with your crotchety old butt. Nobody ever retires and says "man, I really miss work; I should have stayed longer". They all say "man, I shoulda done this sooner!" Do yourself a favor and go enjoy your retirement. Besides, if you pull your money out now it'll be better than the looming economy crash and you'll end up stuck here because all your investments plummetted. Mr. Brown, the time is now, Mr. Brown will you please go now? (name that book Grandpa; if you can't you definitely need to retire and go read to your grandkids). For real. Just go.

you don't "pull your money out" of anything when you retire. lots of people miss working and go back to it.

If you are this wound up this much at your young age, you will be locked up in a padded room 10 years from now.

Did you ever notice that the people asking others to retire are the same ones who shouldn't even be at the job they're at? Their the same ones who think they know everything and don't understand the path that others have gone down to keep them from having to go down the tough path, they get to enjoy the easy path that has been paved for them.

No, it's just that I've seen in both military and civilian circles that once old dudes start getting cranky it makes EVERYONE miserable. As pilots, we have a pretty sweet and easy job (once you know all the regs throughout your career or job-related mumbo-jumbo, all you have to "know" is stay refreshed on EP's and Limits). So if "job stress" is making you that angry all the time then JUST GO or at least switch to part-time work. I've seen more guys who had no idea how stressed they were and what A-holes they'd become until they finally made the decision to retire. Yes, some came back to flying. Either part-time or a more laid-back flying job (EMS or corporate) but the big issue is they realized how miserable they were and, by association, were making everyone else.

I know you want to stop instructing and take my seat, but just for that I'm going to stay another five years. Enjoy the traffic pattern.

You'll stroke out, or otherwise lose your medical and I'll still have the best years of my life ahead of me. Enjoy giving tours in your 60-70's and telling people who don't care about the "good ole days."

What an arrogant little punk.. Used to be the wanna be's tried to soak up everything they could from the old farts before the moved on hoping to acquire any morsel of wisdom that would keep them out of a smoking hole..I learned things from the old farts in the morning that kept me alive in the afternoon...on more than one occassion...With this stated attitude of this fine ambassador of the up and comers, the ony place you will end up is on sombodies mantle is a fine ceramic urn, that is if there  anything left of them in the aforeto mentioned smoking hole.
