Since the last poster discussed radios I wanted to bring up a best practices question. In a class C or D, I sometimes switch off tower on my only radio and put it on 123.025....some fellow pilots have mentioned this is a bad practice. I only go over to air 2 air briefly to listen to the helicopter operations i will be encountering once I leave the C. Thoughts?

You should always monitor Approach or Tower inside Class C, D, and especially B! Screw air-to-air when you're in controlled airspace, all traffic should be talking to ATC.

Maybe read the FARS, by leaving freq inside b/c you're in violation. Maybe just turn in your license if you're this stupid.

First smooth troll. Second what kinda working helicopter doesn't have two VHF with standby freq monitoring radios?
Third on a serious note I have been granted ATC permission to go to a crew radion briefly in B ,C and D airspace. Maybe it's a company thing but when talking on FM the other radios mute in our machines.

Exactly. I try to wait till the tower calls a different aircraft then switch off for a couple seconds. They weren't talking to me anyway.
