A lot of openings have disappeared. Are they getting filled or have they been taken down? Or have they closed enough bases to back fill those slots.

With a $1.2 billion bond coming due in April 2024 and a 2.1 billion dollar debt according to Moody's.
AMC is a sinking ship. If I was a potential employee, I'd be looking elsewhere.

It's beyond a sinking ship. If it wasn't a company in the business of saving people, it would already be dead and gone. And good riddance if you ask me. Worst company ever. Hero wannabes who kill people for a living. Nothing but a tax write off for a religious philanthropic Endeavor. Period.

AMC is just another 135 helicopter operation. Helicopters are designed, built, purchased and operated to do what AMC, other HEMS operations do- transport to and from non-airport landing sites.

I did not do a single thing in my 16 years with AMC that I had not done elsewhere in my 46 year career. Two, three or four passengers from one place to another. In the words of the instructor doing our orientation, each and every flight should have the same priority as moving 'x' weight, a 'box of rocks' specifically. If I would not accept the dispatch for the one, I should not accept it for the other. I was very happy with AMC and would still be flying for them were I a younger man.

My experience was that 'heroes' did not last long on the job. The medical crews are very safety conscious, do not appreciate "adventurous" pilots! Do the job, accept any dispatch you feel can be done within your and the company's limits, communicate as though you were instructing and you will be a successful HEMS pilot.

The only drawback was that I didn't fly enough- I want 600-800 hours a year...

Final word- a pilot's experience largely rests on the program base you are at. Crew, technical support and management are important. Before I accepted employment at an existing program, I would visit at least one base. A new program would require making aquaintance of management.

Easy for AMC to make money and be bought by the next big corporation: Close a few bases, standardize to a few airframes after the closures, fire a few middle managers. Back to making big bucks again. You're safe with AMC long-term (unless it's your base that closes). The pay increases will be sustainable long term too with that model. They've just kept you guys at sorry levels of pay because you would take it (and mil retirees of course help that case).
