If it's not working out for your family or your career goals then it's totally worth it.
Especially if you can't move to where the jobs are.
It's certainly demotivating not having a cool job anymore, those amazing flights that so few experience, or sharing the joy of flying with someone. I was surprised how hard that hit me.
BUT, to not be stressed about bills or needing to do X amount of OT to make up for it (and planning travel/timing to do so) AND having a happy wife/family who see me more on a daily basis is completely worth it.
No rugrets😄.
Plenty of other fun hobbies to explore (that I can afford now) to make up for the loss of coolness factor.
If you're under age 40 and in similar situation, research going FW. Pay and security may be worth the jump. I just missed the window. |

Yeah, been almost a year now. Definitely miss the aviation discussion.
Not the best forum to reminisce as this place gets silly sometimes but it's still fun to contribute and hear the latest issues going on. |

What's the matter? Did you wake up one day and realize that you didn't want to risk your life for a living? Lol. Same. |

If you think of this as "... risk(ing) your life for a living" then you're doing it wrong. A professional avoids or mitigates risk. Done right, HEMS is no more dangerous than any helicopter job. Actually, it would be much less dangerous than a lot of, if not most jobs that fly at night. It's the night operations and the faulty physiological considerations that increase the risk and account for two-thirds of HEMS accidents/incidents...
