Real question from pilots that work at either company, or have worked at either in the past. Which do you prefer vs the other and why? Have worked at one of them ( AMC) and curious about thoughts from pilots who have gone over to MTC, or conversely, pilots that have come to AMC from MTC. Pay, work culture, bennies, company outlook( financial longevity).

They both don't pay enough.
Period.
Quit excepting low wages, both to be close to home, or using retirement money.
Oh yah one more thing, the Union is terrible. |

Looking for actual comparisons , not unhelpful commentary that does not address the questions. If you feel that there are better options than either company, at least post your reasoning. |

Pay AMC 76-92K Max
Med Trans 78-94K
Base-Pay
None of the other add on's count, because they can be taken away at any time. Stipends, Incentives, etc. |

stuff counts until it is no longer. Taking away benefits or some fashion of stipend or whatever is akin to setting the stage for employees to start job shopping. |

AMC 92K is the max regardless of experience.
Med Trans will not go above 100K, but you can get really close. Regardless of experience level. |

AMC has no payscale. The union did away with it on their last contract. So, there really isn't ANY way to tell or specify a top end pay. AMC is paying lots of incentives, so your top end is arbitrary and inaccurate! And, you didn't factor in ACCRA adjustments for many locations, bringing the base pay up to 50% higher in some locations.

AMC got rid of the pay scale but if you apply to AMC they will tell you the max they can hire anyone at is 92K.
PERIOD.
Then they will offer a experience Stipends around 1-8K. But you only get paid OT by the lower rate...
They ARRCA- which can change or be taken away at anytime...10-60%. Very Very few at 60%.
So again, from an Employee who works for AMC and has for many years, you Sir or Ms or They or Them, you are wrong.
Have a great day. |

Can't take away ACCRA or decrease it, read Appendix A, Section 4 (so you're incorrect and misleading)
You claim company can start you up to the max of $92k, read Appendix A, Section 2, explaining the max they can start you at is $73,808. (so, your incorrect and misleading, since they are ACTUALLY starting folks way above contract, and can do it anytime they want to now that precedence is set the union ignored the "scale". IOWs, there is no scale)
OT is based on the base hourly rate, as it has always been, with is your annual base rate divided by 2190, see Appendix A, Section 7 (which it has been since the first contract in 2005, so you are incorrect and misleading)
STICK WITH A DOT UNDER IT
Enjoy the evening.

Brosif... Add-ons, incentives, and ACCRA are not part of base pay. You can not factor those into your pay as they can and most likely will be taken away. Do not say top end is arbitrary and inaccurate because there is a top end. There always will be. |

10 years with AMC and didn't feel supported at the base level. Going to annual training was a nightmare because you were afraid you could lose your job every time. Pay was below par and I felt it was more about the share holders than the employees.
At Med Trans now for 5 years. Training is training, where you are not afraid to ask questions. I don't mind going now. Pay is currently above Par but the company is losing the Mom and Pop feel. Still a good place to be.
Most often it's the people at the base level that can make for a good job enviornment versus one that you put up with. I am happier at Med Trans but there are too many factors to put one ahead of the other. |

Haven't worked MTC but interviewed. Took another job because they seemed rigid, with too much ex-army attitudes.
Worked AMC several years. Hated it. Company thinks it's the greatest, which is why it made so many pilots so mad that they unionized. Union is worthless and powerless, takes your pay for nothing, because the Company is now so hostile to the pilots on account of the unio that they make sure the union either never wins, or that if they win something that they the Company take away something else so there's no net gain.
AMC was last to get goggles and flying singles in my market when others had twins. I switched and got a big raise, a twin, IFR and goggles and the attitude when I left was that I had stabbed them in the back.
I would never work AMC again. You might love it. Really, it's all up to you. Good Luck. |

In HEMS, more than any other phase of the industry, most of your job satisfaction comes with the base- a happy base with good maintenance supporting you in flying the contract.
AMC was last to get goggles and flying singles in my market when others had twins. I switched and got a big raise, a twin, IFR and goggles and the attitude when I left was that I had stabbed them in the back.
I wanted NVGs because I'd spent a significant part of my 40 year career flying nights unaided (4000 hrs). Very comfortable with that but I had also been exposed to aided night in that period. Not a perfect solution and not without drawbacks, but very useful in most night flying if you respected and worked around the limits of the devices.
I would never work AMC again. You might love it. Really, it's all up to you. Good Luck.
Anybody interested should visit a base or better yet a couple, three bases and talk to program pilots, mechs and the self loading baggage (medics, nurses).

AMC is run by financial people and operational control is given to people without any aviation qualifications.
AMC has so many different levels of managers + the Union, which as people have said is completly' worthless.
AMC will terminate pilots at a medical persons whim. Union will NOT support the pilots and neither will the aviatin managers.
Med Trans has a "Just Culture" As long as you are doing your job as defined and guided and you are honest and don't lie about anything you can expect to do well at MTC.
MTC aviaton is run by pilots who support the line pilots.
You can make slightly more money at MTC. Benifits are a wash. I personally feel there is less administrative BS at MTC.
But at the end of the day, you take the job closest to where you want to live. But if either company is an option, hands down MTC...
Training at MTC is FAR superior to AMC. I know specifically where one pilot at AMC was set up to fail at his annual training and was sumarily terminated after not passing his checkride... that he'd never had any problems with the previous five years in the same aircraft.

Not so. Formerly, I represented many pilots for Local 109, mostly "successful". The success is in quotes because once management learned that they must follow the contract procedures, they did so.
Even with contract protection, there are specific grounds for immediate termination. If those requirments are met, the pilot will not return to the position. |

all but the first statement. Really functional training by operators has always been a matter of half a glass empty or so massively overblown by employing a military approach its effectiveness in the field can be difficult to assess. |
