A friend working for MTC said they got a big raise in July 2022, and this year (2023) started a 40K retention bonus to be paid over three years. Do the normal annual increase of 3% continue during this period, or have all standard pay raises stopped?

Not here. There is also a 10k referral bonus. Of course that can end at anytime. Now PHI isn't givi anything noteworthy. They may have what they are calling a 50k sign on bonus, but it's paid out over three years or so. So, it's not a real sign on bonus where you would get it after new hire training. It's a retention bonus. But don't bank on any pay raises or step increases any soon at PHI. DM gave the pilots only a step increase this year but very begrudgingly. He said he had to do it because all the other operators made bad decisions.

Obvi, the OP is a troll. Says has a friend at MTC that told of big pay raises and retention bonus. Wouldnt he ask his friend the question of 3% annual increase?

to the bank.

These companies are banking on the fact that you don't know how to negotiate for professional pay.

5K+ hour pilots making 80-90 is just plain insulting.

15-20 military pilots with tons of combat time and IFR and 2K worth of hours making the same....

Jeez this industry sucks...

Every August at MTC is when we get our 3%.  Last year at the same time as the 3% normally hit they made the pay adjustment both in rate and how its paid.  There was a one time $5000 bonus paid out as a kick off to everything.  It was a 11.1% "market adjustment" along with the usual 3%, so thats the 14.1% everyone talks about, however they did the math of 11.1 and then took that new base and applied the 3 so you got a few extra bucks vs 14.1 on the original base all at once.  The rentention program was also started back then for new hires and the 3 year clock started Jan 1 2023 for existing pilots.  If you stay for 3 years you get the 40k, if after 2 years you leave on good terms you get 10k, less than that nothing.

They also changed the geo modifiers from a flat dollar amount to a percentage of base amount, more like how AMC does their ACCRA.  If you were at 20k modifier they looked at your new base amount after the raises and determined what whole number percentage gets you as close to the original 20k dollar amount.

But through all this the biggest change, especially if you are at a base with a higher geo mod was that your base pay now includes your geo and any stipends you get like a flight instructor or BAM.  Before if your base salary was for example 70k and you had a 20k geo mod.  They took 70k divided by 2184 hrs a year to get your hourly rate of $32.05 and a OT rate of $48.07, then they took the 20k geo and broke it out over 26 pay periods as a separate line item on your pay check, so $769.23 each check.  Now its 70k plus a 29% geo mod putting you at $90,300 and they take that larger number, divid by 2184hrs a year to come up with your rate of $41.34 and OT $62.01 so while the same money is just being paid differently when you do OT you are at a higher rate that has your geo mod built into it.  Plus the 3% raises every August are off that larger total number so getting 3% off $90,300 is better than off $70,000.

I havent been asking around but havent heard rumors of any other pay adjustment later this year for MTC other than the usual August 3%
