It was obvious it wouldn't be concurrent ADSO. Why would they give you branch of choice and then when you get Aviation and not make you pay back (3 years) for your branch of choice. Now of course their time in service towards the 3 years BEFORE aviation ADSO starts (typically 18 months-24 months), so it shouldn't be 3 year ADSO after the 6 aviation years, but the guys in this article are whining as if they didn't expect to have any extra ADSO beyond their aviation requirement. Snowflakes

They're not keeping or recruiting enough pilots so they found a way to keep them in longer.

yeah, just remember this, when the usual clowns start tbe usual blather talking about writing a check made payable to this country for any amount up to, and including their lives.

it's all bull s  h  i  t.

people really just join to get something, something that I can't get anywhere else because the country is in such bad shape. And when they don't get it, and it don't work out like they think, naturally, they're a bit peeved.

economic conscription.

"Top-ranked cadets often received their favored choices without owing more time, but for a competitive branch like aviation, the board often selected average cadets who elected the additional service obligation."

Now I know why our slogan was, Above the Best Yell

Is because the Infantry Generals above Aviation determine how much $$ goes to the flight hour program. Consequently they fund the minimum which is roughly 96 flight hours PER YEAR PER PILOT. That isn't what real pilots signed up for so there is a rush for the door. Also, any aviation wannebe with half a brain is realizing signing up for a 10 year commitment to NOT FLY is STUPID. The lack of true proficiency now has the Army crashing aircraft routinely.

Lesson #1 when joining the military: NEVER trust what the recruiter SAYS.  Only trust what is written, and BTW read the darn contract.  You would think a bunch of college grads would have figured that out.

Every military pilot will say they are trained the best fly, the best equipment to (include sim time), all while doing it on 96 hours a year....

Yah something does not smell right, how can you be not only proficient but operate at high level with such low numbers.

I would say you can't, and maybe that's why so many Army Helicopter pilots are going to the airlines.

Lack the time, proficiency, skills for single pilot ops in helicopters, not just EMS, but Utility, etc.

Fast forward a few years and you'll have an array of choices...

1. Be an loser and get involuntarily separated and paid separation bonus.

2. Be a hero and get passed over for promotion anyway cause there are too many people in your year group.

3. Be center of mass and take fat separation bonus cause the Army can't manage their year groups.

4. Get lucky because you are one year group behind paragraph 3 and any idiot can make O-5.

And so forth...
