Most companies want it on all the time other than your approaches for the most part. However, if you are departing a location on the edge of bravo or Charlie and you need to get some calls in you don't need the HTAWS squawking in your ear. So it's not a bad idea to inhibit it until you are done with your initial calls. Then put it back online.

There is a guy on the forum who thinks that a HTAWS could not possibly distract a pilot at a critical phase of flight.
