The "clear" you for landing on pad such and such, cut in when you are making "traffic" calls, and pretend they are controlling you.

You are a UNICOM, not a CONTROL TOWER.   If I say "XRAY TRAFFIC, HAA GUY TURNING FINAL FOR THE PAD, XRAY TRAFFIC", don't answer me!  You are not "traffic" and I'm not talking to you!

Take it as a chance to educate them.  If its an ER tech that is working a portable/mobile right at the door of the helipad, then a simple conversation after you shut down can take care of that.  If its down at the security desk buried deep in the hospital then there is a little more effort involved but most of these folks just dont know any better.  No one has told them what to do or not to do so they just go with whatever they got, cant blame them for not knowing something that was never taught to them.

Some places the hospital put together guideline (without the help of an aviation rep) on the helipads procedures and they will say they want them to coordinate the landings because hospitals just love written procedures, that more effort but even then talking to person holding the radio can clear things up.

I wouldn't give it a second thought. I sure as hell wouldn't go talking to anybody about. If you're that worked up, talk to your lead or area manager about it. The only place I have ever landed that had aviation freq's was Vanderbilt in Nashville and you were required to get cleared to land and take off. Maybe they were overstepping but if you wanted to continue bringing patients there, you played by their rules.

Subpart G—Aeronautical Advisory Stations (Unicoms)

§ 87.213 Scope of service.

(a) An aeronautical advisory station (unicom) must provide service to any aircraft station upon request and without discrimination. A unicom must provide impartial information concerning available ground services.

(b)

(1) Unicom transmissions must be limited to the necessities of safe and expeditious operation of aircraft such as condition of runways, types of fuel available, wind conditions, weather information, dispatching, or other necessary information. At any airport at which a control tower, control tower remote communications outlet station (RCO) or FAA flight service station is located, unicoms must not transmit information pertaining to the conditions of runways, wind conditions, or weather information during the hours of operation of the control tower, RCO or FAA service station.

(2) On a secondary basis, unicoms may transmit communications which pertain to the efficient portal-to-portal transit of an aircraft, such as requests for ground transportation, food or lodging.

(3) Communications between unicoms and air carrier must be limited to the necessities of safety of life and property.

(4) Unicoms may communicate with aeronautical utility stations and ground vehicles concerning runway conditions and safety hazards on the airport when neither a control tower nor FAA flight service station is in operation.

(c) Unicoms must not be used for air traffic control (ATC) purposes other than to relay ATC information between the pilot and air traffic controller. Relaying of ATC information is limited to the following:

(1) Revisions of proposed departure time;

(2) Takeoff, arrival or flight plan cancellation time;

(3) ATC clearances, provided a letter of agreement is obtained from the FAA by the licensee of the unicom.

..is that these hospital helipads are private helipads, and they can make some rules for those who land there if they so choose.  Any procedures that they developed likely resulted from either someone being a d!ck, or being unsafe.  (Or both.)

The person on the other end of the radio probably hasn't been trained in aviation procedures or terminology, and they're just doing the best that they can.  Give 'em a break.

Yet, the example shows TRAFFIC as those being called at the beginning of the radio call.   I'm talking to TRAFFIC (other animate objects/pilot's) not the AIRPORT (an animate object).

Self-announce transmissions may include aircraft type to aid in identification and detection, but should not use paint schemes or color descriptions to replace the use of the aircraft call sign. For example, “MIDWEST TRAFFIC, TWIN COMMANDER FIVE ONE ROMEO FOXTROT TEN MILES NORTHEAST” or “MIDWEST TRAFFIC, FIVE ONE ROMEO FOXTROT TWIN COMMANDER TEN MILES NORTHEAST, ...

Notice their example of a proper radio call uses "traffic" at the beginning, and doesn't even end with "Midwest".

These are RECOMMENDED procedures!   Not regulations governing a radio station license.

My radio call is a self-announce so that other TRAFFIC can hear me, not to the kid behind the desk who feels compelled to jump on the radio and answer me blocking the radio from possibly other traffic.   I'm not taking to him, he doesn't need to respond or control me!

That was me. I have a RTOP. I looked in the direction the wind sock was pointing, and there was no "TRAFFIC".

Out of reflex I looked in the direction of the open side of the windsock, and there you were. It was at that moment I realized that you were a cowboy, or just incompetent, so I had to say something. Do you remember that just then I answered you "EAT THE CARROT" ? Where were you the day they taught traffic patterns?

they have that millenial childhood disease called cancel culture, er, cancel disease.  You might gently point out to them that if they clear you to land, not 'land at your own risk', they may legally be taking on some inferred responsibility and liability that might turn to bite them under litigation should there be an incident or accident following such 'clearance'.

Assuming authority with no regulatory justification can become awkward in many ways.
