It's time for a new brain bucket boys. I've worn the HGU-56 for over 20 years but it's heavy and big. The Evo looks cool and light and is probably the new hotness. Is it worth the extra 1k? Help me decide.

Over priced and not very reliable

We maintain a fleet of Galet and Gentex helmets

no comparison between the two in cost and reliability.

add in the fitting issues for people with glasses and it's a no brainer

Had the Gallet, nice and light but then I got glasses and the visors wouldn't close. Got an Alpha Eagle and love it, best helmet i've had out of 4 types. Of course it depends on your head shape, so before you buy be sure to try. If you have a spare helmet liner use it to try you co-wokers helmets till you find what you like.

EVO is a gallet copy. Call Merit and get a Gallet. The customer service difference from Merit is miles above everyone else. Most of the "Cool kid" evo parts like mirrored visors are interchangeable with gallet

Is the only option. EVO is a BS knockoff that sucks. Wider, heavier, stupid proprietary connection at back, doesn't even hold up. If gallet was so bad then why did evo copy it? Go for the best and original.

BTW alpha sucks even worse than evo.

Gallet mis fantastic. Tiger or Merit are both great, although I'm partial to tiger cause of their flex boom.

Love my gallet and its small footprint. Makes a huge difference in the cramped 407 cockpit. The SPH is super wide and heavy which isnt a big deal in larger helicopters. I really like that the SPH has a neck nape strap adjuster like whats found on bike helmets thats found on bike helmets. Helps stabalize the load of the NVG's.

If Gallet could somehow put in an adjustable rear head/neck adjuster it would be a game changer.

Paraclete was a christian company that built SPH5 helmets with new or reconditioned stock, and a portion of the funds went to a good cause such as a charity etc.

They seem to have expanded, (if this is the same group?).

Yikes. Used them at AMC. HEAVY. As in, Army heavy kevlar infantry helmet heavy. Liner is quality and much like a Gentex but with better chin strap system (although it is a plastic connector). Boom similar to military style. Cord is heavy and extra long (springy part is too long and not very stretchy). Metal NVG mount is quality. Visors aren't super smooth like a Gentex. Oh, and we had a batch a year ago that had serious volume/ohm issues (didn't matter what airframe). Those that had the extra volume dongle in the aircraft didn't have that problem (as in, the 8-10" cord with a volume adjustment knob halfway down the cord). Was only an issue with Paraclet and their customer service wouldn't look into it. Did I mention it is heavy?
