Is the Army getting out of Aviation ? I don't understand the logic behind, getting pennies on the dollar for assets that are still relatively airworthy. The new model will cost twice what we paid for the old one. Why don't we just give them to Iran in a foreign military sales deal ? Wait scratch that idea, the politicians are already on that one. |

Just wait for a few slow fire seasons and you'll be able to get your own Hawk-cheap. |

Yep, all these operators who have never operated a type 1 before are going to fire sell them once they realize they arnt all they thought they were.
the 64/H3/47 are all far superior than the uh60 in the type 1 role. |

The per hour flight cost is ridiculous for a helicopter that was supposed to replace the Huey.
A Lima went for around 7-10 mil when I was in the Army, then the new Mikes were going for 20-22 mil when the D model Apache at the time was supposedly a 24 mil helicopter. Ridiculous amount for not that much more of a helicopter.
I always thought it was funny how Blackhawk pilots LOVE to ground taxi everywhere. At $2.5K/hr flight cost they'd rather ground taxi and waste precious minutes instead of just air taxiing to where they needed to go on the airfield.
Supposedly they're selling them fully restored for way less than the Army paid:

the second that they leave the ground the odds of them crashing increase exponentially. they'd have those "aviators" wheel to the LZ like a humvee if they could. |

Just getting downvoted by all the butthurt operators or pilots getting to fly a "heavy" now....if you even want to call it that. Not much bigger than a UH1 and all the giddy low time pilots flying them. |

LOL... ground taxi is for moving at idle to save fuel. You helo guys still have to be at FLY to taxi, so there's no point other than rotor wash mitigation when near something sensitive. Otherwise you guys should air taxi. |
