in almost all the larger helicopters operators. access to a tax base. then cost is of no consequence.

monroe county air ambulance is free to residents. I have no idea what "commercial revenues". It sounds like a way better system than what most of the rest of the country has.

No Out-of-Pocket Costs for Monroe County Residents

There are no out-of-pocket costs for County residents who use the life-saving service. In the past, private air ambulances in the Keys have charged County residents tens of thousands of dollars in out-of-pocket costs for transport to mainland hospitals.

Like Maryland, Virginia, etc, that'll be the most expensive free ride you ever take.

The cost of the transport, dummy. The cost of operating that type aircraft. Not the "free ride" that particular individual recieved. That is pretty cheap for that one individual...because all their neighbors were forced to pitch in to pay for that fancy ride, but then didn't get one.

You think their operating budget is the same or more than a commercial operator flying a 407?

You think just because it's tax money, that maybe the same dollars stretch further? Far enough that they can operate that high dollar equipment at the same cost? That they're super efficient or something? Are you new here?

Nothing the government "provides" for you is cheap or efficient. There's no incentive to do so. Waste, fraud, and abuse. Stop asking them to do it. Duh.

these folks are cheating the system on a loophole that was created when the FAA made it so two counties can share resources like mosquito control. ot so the can start a commercial operation and run off all the competition. they are a public aircraft operator also billing for services to insurance companies and non-residents. It has M0N0P0LIZED the area and is raking in lots of cash for the county it shouldn't be!

Been around a while. Might want to figure out why there isn't any competition down here. How come AMC, PHI, Metro, AEL or any others fail to exist down here? The county would have gladly subsidized AMC if they would have gotten their act together before it was too late. By the time AMC management figured it out it was too late. And by the way AMC wasn't kicked out of the county. LKMC asked them to leave their pad due to the bad publicity AMC had caused. And yes, our pay is low and we're busy. This isn't a retirement job anymore. And no taxes have never paid for this operation, and yes, as a 135, the billing takes place just like any other 135. Anyone of the HAA operators could make it work here, even today. And if you think it's because the county has monopolized the area, you're wrong.
