Everyone on JH complains and trolls. How about the fact that we fly helicopters for a living? That's pretty awesome and amazing. I come from the civilian side and worked some terrible jobs before becoming a pilot. Not a day goes by that I'm not grateful for my job. I agree that we could all use more money and better equipment etc... but we are pilots and get to see the world from a different perspective.

I have also worked in several different sectors and they all have their pros and cons. There are good and bad pilots in all sectors. So all the people who come onto this forum and stir the pot and talk trash on other sectors, I hope you stub your toe, kill your egos and enjoy your day.

People prefer to dwell on the negative, it's how they cope with their pathetic lives...

think that is true.  Negativity is the inertia of culture expressed individually.  Being honest and real with yourself cuts through that garbage.  The truth is true.

I agree enjoy your work. Worked 40 years in aviation military and civilian fixed wing and helicopters,3 years off shore and  25 years EMS. Always worked with good people, I did not always agree on some issue, I could have been wrong but don't think so I am a pilot after all. Had great times with great people.Retried when I did not believe I was doing my best work. Oh yes I was lucky.

You had an Army retirement to make up for crappy pay... so OF COURSE life was good.  And you clearly did EMS before all the modern stupidity.

The OP is clearly a young guy.  When he gets to 40 and realizes he'll be flying non-stop until 65 and still have little to show to be prepared for retirement where he can afford to invest time and money into his grandkids he'll be singing a different tune.

I too was super optimistic about how great life was as a pilot in my 20's and 30's.  Then my kids reached their teen years and I finally realized just how very little I had advanced financially (still making $70-80K after 20 year flying career) and it all dawned on me how stupid "but look at how cool my job is" mentality is.

Moved onto non-flying gig and VERY happy I transitioned to better pay and quality of life.

For the military retirees, the ones with family that can manage your being away while you fly cool AND good paying gigs, and for those who had other investment from family or otherwise to start their career off with a better financial footing somehow to be able to handle such a crappy paying profession... the best to you.

well said!

I envy your dedication.  I was a Vietnam Army pilot who looked forward to finishing college and flying helicopters for a living; mostly for the perspective and variety of jobs and living circumstances.  Flew over 50 years and had one heck of a time and family life.

We're Americans first, everything else comes later!
