Mention you receive VA disability compensation. 100% disabled 3,820 a month tax free, CW4 Pension (4k a month) on top of that...And 17 years in HEMS 117k a year. Hate the game kids! |

Or.... and hear me out on this... you could explain the disability process, how percentages work, and how certain disabilities don't affect your ability to safely operate an aircraft. You could also maybe not be a d0uch3bag who brags about how much he makes and recognize that alot of those civilian-trained dudes worked their asses off to get where they are and maybe don't have it quite as good as you. But by all means, go on trying to "trigger Civ trained Pilots" and wonder why we as military-trained aviators often get the stink-eye from said civilian guys. |

What do you call it when BOTH the VA and Social Security says you're totally disabled? Two totally different systems with totally different ways of determining "disability." With the VA you get percentages of disability. Mine ended up totaling 250% BTW, but the VA only pays you at the 100% rate. With the SSA you're either totally disabled or not disabled, no "degrees" of disability.
I'm not "milking"anything! I did take advantage of everything I qualified for under the systems as they are currently being administered. Why not? I payed for the SSA benefits, so I earned what they "approved me for; and I dam sure earned what the VA approved me for as well.

Fact is, it use to be very difficult to qualify for 100% disability, but today all you have to do is prove you did some combat time in Iraq or Afghanistan and BINGO you get 100% disability. |

You don't have to know anyone, but you do have to know how the VA system works. There are plenty of YouTube channels if you'd like to educate yourself and do it alone. The other option is paying someone for their expertise. You don't pay unless they get you benefits, and only have to pay them when you get your back pay lump sum. There are many options there too. All you have to do is a google search. |

Several years ago, it was reported in the news that two helicopter pilots were caught not reporting disabilty on their FAA medical exam form. They had their medicals revoked and were prosecuted for fraud. I never heard the end result. It sounded like it was two guys working at the same base for a HAAO provider. I'm guessing that they angered someone with their stories of all the money they were making, and that someone reported them. |

THere is quite a lot of that going on right now. I know three different guys who have gotten notices from the FAA about the Disability question on the medical form. I'm not sure how the FAA is getting around the HIPPA laws. I seem to recall a California FSI doing the same thing a while back and a couple of pilots sueing the FAA about the violation of their HIPPA confidentiality. As I recall, they won their cases.
I was 100% disabled for 5 years when I left the Army due to a bout of cancer. I needed to prove I was cancer free for 12 months before I could apply for a medical. I answered that question and explained my circumstances. Since then I've answered "yes" and Previously Reported No Change. I haven't heard a thing from the FAA. |

a disability check and having a valid FAA medical...that is BS. All of your
references are for individuals that did not disclose it on their paperwork. Lying on the form is what the articles reference.
You disclose the info. the AME/FAA does what they do, and you move on. Been doing it for the last 20 years, easy peasy.
If you lie on the form, you may have a problem, doesn't matter which question. |

"When the FAA and VA start to compare notes, a lot of not-so-disabled people are going to find their disability payments dry up. Might even have to pay it back."
Look familiar? It's total BS. No one is going to lose a VA disability, or have to pay back benefits based on a FAA investigation over a flight physical. It doesn't work that way.
The VA grants disabilities based on their own information and investigation. You don't just walk in and say "my back hurts" and then they cut you a check. They do an examination/tests and determine if you get one based on their own investigation.
Your choice not to disclose a VA disability does not influence your eligibility. It doesn't work that way.
DISMISSED!

At ease there Sgt Rock...
The VA doesnt do all of their own evaluations and there are plenty of scam artists out there collecting disability for injuries they don't have.
Don't you think that if the FAA is talking to the VA to cross check and see if you have a disability, then investigating and pulling your medical as those articles stated; that maybe, just maybe they'll go back to the VA and let them know that a guy/gal who is claiming 50-100% disability is out there doing a job similar to the one that supposedly disabled them? And don't you think the VA would be interested? |

It's apparent that you have an anti-military bias and are unable to consider the overall situation in this industry. Civilian trained (and indebted) pilot hires have caught and surpassed military pilot hires in many cases. Lose that chip. |
