Pilot pay raises +20/-3

I think most pilots this past year got pay raises (finally). And from what I've seen, nearly every new pilot job posting is also reflecting higher pay. But I've seen in many cases, companies are hiring new pilots starting out at higher pay than pilots that have been with their company for years. In addition to simply making more $ as a new hire than longevity pilots, companies are giving new hire pilots sign on and retention bonuses, some more than $40k.
Companies aren't seeming to reward loyalty and appreciation for pilot's that have been with them for years, and made their company what it is. I've talked to a lot of pilots that are frustrated by this, and by making less $ than new hire pilots. Until pilots just start quitting in droves and applying for new pilot positions, I don't see this ever changing. What's your experience? And innovative ideas to help this problem? |

Sign on bonuses are just that, a sign on. Doesn't mean they're higher on the step scale than you. I remember a guy who interviewed with me at rotorcraft back in 2012 just to get the offer, then countered his employer "westwind" and they matched the rotorcraft offer so he stayed.
Fastforward 5 years later, I'm at Westwind and got hired on about 10k a year more than the 2 most senior pilots. But this is just one example of a bad company.
Having a publised payscale with steps makes it a honest playing field. At this point, if someone else is offering more salary elsewhere I say make the jump. Unless you aren't replaceable (which you are), I doubt your employer will care in the end. It's a numbers game both ways.

Med Trans gave raises across the board, and a three year retension bonus to all pilots. Hard to see how newbies could be making more that senior guys there. If it happens it the pilot fault for not asking for more. |

I know of a 10 year with the company pilot that is only making about 3k more than a less than 1 year ems new hire pilot. |

Give proper notice and quit citing exactly what you told the forum. It will be a bargain for them to give you the bonus etc. It is very expensive to train and qualify a new pilot. You are already on the certificate, a known quantity, etc. I am fairly certain they will cave in. It's a shame but works...both ways. |

Does that sound like pilots not happy with staying at their company? |

Quite a lot. Who wants to give the Union 1% of your base pay? Keep it and save it for your retirement by not working at AMC.
rumor has it PHI is greater than 60 short. |

they want the old guys who are making big bucks to quit. the young are doing the same for less money, plus they will do every silly thing they're told. the old, once they quit, won't be hired back--done. |

Oh I get that. You are spot on. In fact PHI is now hiring folks who haven't even flown in years. How's that going to help their Destination Zero saf program? So Rusty cheaper employees. |

in to some sort of complaint, class action, union, whatever. Don't let your employer run all over you cuz it'll just get worse, and more often. |
