Msg ID: 2764972 Once age 60, then 65, proposed 67 +5/-1
Author:Up and up, all ARBITARY criteria!
2/11/2023 8:26:05 PM

Used to be, for safety, 60 was the limit for Part 121.  Then, when they started getting short of pilots, it went up to 65.   Now, as we are getting shorter, 67 is being proposed.

All arbitrary number!

The limit had more to do with making room for the bottom then it did about safety at the top!   Even ALPA opposes the increase in age because of it causing a stagnation for junior pilots not being able to upgrade.  Soon, you'll also see ICAO follow suit and up their requirements as well.

BTW, did you know, currently, you cannot be a pilot flying single-pilot commerically under ICAO rules if you are older than 60.   Are there any HEMS or fixed-wing Air Ambulance operators crossing the border?   Hope nit!  Because it arbitrarily unsafe to fly over 60 apparently!

"Follow the science", the modernist chants!   OK, there!  There's real science.

I say, "show me the science" , if you are promoting a mandatory retirement age that is not simply arbitrarily adopted!

Stay calm, we are busy training the AI. Soon, this problem will be solved as soon as we perfect the AI pilot. We are still in early stages. As soon as figure out the ghost breaking and the windshield wiper issue, all will be good, no need for human pilot.

sincerely,

I knew a HAA pilot who flew till age 80 and could have gone another couple of year he was so sharp. I know a few 50 somethings who should retire today. It's all about fitness and attitude.

Your turn is coming and I bet your chances of being like everyone else working as long as possible as a pilot will be exactly like the norm.  We hear about pilots cashing in early and taking up other occupations but very few do so successfully irrespective of their insistence concerning their superior intellect and capabilities.  The one that cracks me up most is a pilot professing he'd have become a neuro surgeon if not for his helicopter passion.

Really?

so they painted the.selves I to a corner because they loosley vailed their opposition under a safety issue when ot really was about a flowing seniority issue. that why you junior inexperienced low seniority types are quickly sitting right seat on international routes these days. senior guys are having to bid domestically to evade ICAOs unsupported and arbitrary max age (60) rule. it'll change soon, just watch!

term.

example: you could stand in front of the WH as long as you want holding a sign that says "Joe Biden's son has a laptop and it's from hell and he eats babies. do your own research!".

you could could go to the Kremlin and hold a sign in red square saying "Putin sucks" and be carted off to jail in about 2 minutes.

tell me again how freedom in this country is a lie.

Actually it was age 62.  The new proposal is tied to full Social Security retirement age.
