The FAA has no reason to complain about late paperwork. My medical info has been in their hands for four months. My medical has now expired and I cannot work. Why won't the FAA fix this mess.

your medical would not be valid even if it wasn't expired if have a disqualifying condition. it's in your hand as soon as the exam is over otherwise. sounds like you were working with a disqualifying condition. tut tut could be trouble coming for you bro

all med stuff goes to the FAA Medical Branch in Ok city.  It does exsist.  Check befiree you mouth off.

I had a valild medical issues undder A Special Issueance.  Every year i send in the required test results according to their tume table.  Every year we play this game.  This year they have screwed up and delayed things.

Even FAA folks hate the Medical Branch.  They are slow and dont give a damn about the pilots.

Many years ago 1986 my medical was issued by an AME then also called a flight physician as authorized by the FAA medical branch. The term is often still used even though it is correctly now a division. Of course every pilot was also called an airman regardless or the two genders existing back then.

Because unfortunately, it doesn't cost or penalize anyone in that bureaucratic chain to work inefficiently or to simply say, "no". There's no incentive for them to improve the process or to expedite your case. Does your company, by chance, pay for AMAS? If not, is that a service you would be willing to pay for? Might be worth it. I know it must be frustrating for you to no end, and the idea of having to have to pay for a professional service to help you make the medical division do its job probably turns your stomach.

you decide to give them 4 months to get back to you the problem is not them, it is you.

Learn to advocate and take zero crhaaappp.

Short of you doing it work through AOPA.  They are very very good at helping providing you constantly and politely stay in touch with them.

You obviously have never had your paperwork stuck at OKC. I haven't either, but I've been doing this long enough to know several that have. There is no advocating for yourself if you're stuck in that loop. Best advice I've heard is that if you develop a condition that is going to require a special issuance, go to an AME at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. That worked wonders for one of my friends. Probably would have been back flying without restrictions years earlier if he had started there.

finding that 'in' is called advocating for oneself.  Solve the problem.  Find the solution.  Never sit around waiting for some phreekinnngggg beurocracy to do something worthwhile for you.

For years I have flown under a "Special Issuand" medical! I take my normal Flight Physical in April! My ME sends the paper work to OKC for final approval! Usually recedive the final approval in November! In lieu I am still aurthorized to fly pending final approval. Here it is February and I still have no final approval! Looks like I will be up for a new Flight Physical before I get (if at all) the Final Approval from last year! Gotta love the FAA!

.....when okc responds and asks for the same info you had already sent them they give you 60 days to respond or face legal action.....but they can take 4plus months to respond to you. This is not fair. I have been waiting over 1 year now for a SI and both my GP and AME have deemed me fit for work, the issue I had has completely resolved. So much for being honest and doing the right thing and disclosing the problem.

or AOPA or a lawyer, your congress persons, a friend, your AME, and so on.

The more calls OKC gets about you the more they are likely to dig your file from the bottom of the pile, or admit they lost it, or decide to lose it, whatever they get up to.

Try making five calls per day requesting assistance.  Our alleged government is there to serve us, not we serve them even though we pay their salaries through taxes.  It is important to keep things straight in the relationship.
