My RAM asked me to work past my 14 hr duty day as a favor to the program. We were stuck on a hospital helipad and only needed run ups. I did it and worked to 16 hours. We never flew but got it run up checked for the morning guy. This was in the middle of the night.
was I wrong To stay and run it up? It feels odd. |

I wouldn't worry too much about it, if it just once, trying to help your company. Dont let said company take advantage though--a 14 hr duty day is just that. |

As long as you take 10 hours rest before next shift , your legal. Just doing run ups is ok, unless your so tired you think you going to hot Start etc or do something that could get someone hurt .. No different than getting in your car after long day and driving home . A lot of pilots that stay in company housing do that on last day of hitch and then have 6 hour plus drive home And if tired they don't go.
If it s legal, the rest is common sense and personal responsibility... Both of which are dying traits these days. |

Your duty day is 14 hours. Period. Why did you stay? The next pilot can do run-ups and if not, then the machine is grounded until the next shift. So what. What's it to you? The company doesn't give a rats arse about you. And that's reflected in poor wages and benefits. You die, quit or whatever. So what. The company will be there the next day.
Its the same with workover. Stop this stupid 'help the company' mentality. You think the company is gonna help you when you're in a bind?
Its work to live, not live to work. Get a grip. |

your duty day is not 14 hours. anywho, I don't think anyone is so naive they think a company "cares" about them, but my job is to make my bosses job easier and that means I'm doing my job. things work very smoothly that way. I also only work over for the $$$, same as everybody else. what are you nuts |

Most of the time I don't view it as helping the company out. I view it as helping the mechanic out. I like my mechanic and hes a good guy. If it helps the company great. But I was helping my mechanic and happy to do so. |

the MX was done and needed a run up for the sign off and the relieving pilot probably was a ways out. you did the mechanic a favor, really. |

Oh please. Helping out to make your bosses job easier? Stay in your lane and don't be a hero.
And duty day semantics? C'mon. If you work for any decent outfit you'll keep to your 14/10 and stop making things complicated for yourself and everyone else. |

when you help the company, 99.9% of the time you're it's helping a coworker. that's the reality.
yeah, that 12 hour on 12 off thing is soooo complicated lol
something tells me you just might not do this for a living bro. you sound like an idiot |

GOM defines duty period as 12 hours. Can be etended to 14 hours. The GOM is regulatory for the pilots on the certificate. |
