Im not ifr current But I have my own small plane and a friend who could come with me to act as safety pilot So I can get current. Is this legal? 

she is over 21 and has flown drones before but isn't a rated pilot. and she is single.

FAR 91.109(c)(1) requires that the Safety Pilot must hold at least a private pilot certificate. The pilot certificate must have category and class ratings that are appropriate to the aircraft being flown.

You would know. It's cliche but true that once one starts ignoring regulations you ignore more and more of them.
