So we have a pilot that is a bit...different.... maybe unsafe in some eyes, maybe not, just different techniques from other pilots that can make crews uncomfortable. He has worked at 3 different bases with our program and multiple others bases with other programs and seems to have moved for some sketchy reasons.

He's had quite a few complaints to management, from pilots and med and always vigorously defended by management. So much so that the last medcrewmember to file a complaint was forced to resign over it.

So now no medcrew or pilot will raise a concern over this pilot for fear of retaliation.

Anyone seen this before?

Apparently he did win if medcrew was forced to resign. He's got to have photos with somebody with a donkey

An untouchable pilot has been created and the example and expectation has been set by management.

FINALLY!! you people finally get it. We don't care about your petty grievances if the pilot shows up on time, doesn't break the helicopter, and makes us money we do not care.

So write a 4 page email about how he didn't make a radio call in the blind when you saw an airplane 4 miles away and 4000 feet higher. We barely make it through the first paragraph before we lose interest.

9 times of of 10 Med crews 'like' pilots who make them feel good more than pilots who know what they are doing and fly safe. Med crews are your passengers and not flight crew. Most Med crew are deeply flawed people who judge what a good pilot is, not on decision making, but on social skills. ALL of the dead pilots I know where highly liked by the Med crews. Just saying.

Sounds like he's not doing anything specifically unsafe - just a different technique that complies with procedure but that his co-workers just haven't seen used before. Also sounds like management has given their answer and his co-workers can either fly with him or pack their $h!t... for now anyways. Unfortunately, this won't last. Sooner or later, guys like this get blackballed by their medcrew, justifiably or not. And they either get a transfer or a glowing letter of recommendation to their next employer.

What "techniques" are you talking about?

There are a number of reasons a pilot might move to another base. We have a couple of pilots here who have moved to three different bases. Several others have made a move to another base. Most move to cut their drive times, nothing "sketchy". Two or three others will be making the same kind of move

It's possible that the pilot comes to work, actually does his job and does it professionally, and that is something the med crews aren't used to.

if you are a NURSE / MEDIC and juming in the helicopter when you question the weather and then report them scud running or flying in weather you find questionable then YOU are to blame....Hint, if you don't go on the helicopter then the flight can't be done with just 2 of you.....grab some BALLZZZ and say no....don't complain about a pilot scud running and being unsafe when you have the option to not go on board.....If they fire him for that, YOU should be fired as well for allowing yourself KNOWING that they do that....
