If I complete an NVG proficiency check under 61.57(g) am I then allowed to perform duties as a NVG PIC carrying passengers?   Does the proficiency check basically reset the timeframe for 61.57(f)?

The reg says I need 61.57(f)  OR complete a profiencincy check under 61.57(g) but doesn't seem to say how long the proficiency check allows me to act as a PIC.

Thought?

Maybe it's just me, but that sounds pretty self explanatory.

Yes it resets you as long as you maintain currency under Part 61 or 135 depending on your position.

In basic terms (non-lawyer)...

for carrying pax 3 months (2 month look back)

for pic 5 months (4 month look back)

beyond that you need an NVG proficiency check with an authorized person. dont fly goggles

Your Operator's General Operations and Training Manual will answer that question. During your INDOC training, recency of experience should be covered as well. In most cases, during your .293a, check pilots will ask you a question or two regarding HNVGOs.
