Good point on the shoes. I always keep a comfy pair handy that I can switch into when the engine quits. It's a flight safety issue with me. |

If flat shoes are what it takes right now, stick with them. Over time it will become less of an issue, and when you fly twins you may go 10 years without doing auto's. |

special autorotation shoes. $399 plus shipping but they guarantee you will move the pedals better in an auto or your money back. |

they do not guarantee this for hover autos, though. Those are the special hover auto shoes but also available, along with max performance take off shoes which also improve your rapid decel game. |

When you first start out having a thin sole flat shoe will help you get a feel for the pedals, especially on a small training aircraft like the R22. When you are a low time student any changes can throw you off your game so if you want to stick with the same pair for a bit then go for it. First time you get in there with a pair of big winter boats it's going to feel weird but don't worry about it. Eventually none of it will matter and you'll laugh about how shoes got involved with your performance. |

Doesn't matter. In the mil and in HAA, I Dad to wear boots. Flying on the side, I wear anything from cowboy boots to tennis shoes to flip flops. In the jet, I wear dress shoes, but only because I have to. Wear whatever makes you comfy. |

Be prepared to walk out.
Briars and other defensively hostile plants make boots a strong option. |
