Defiant was slightly bigger footprint than the Blackhawk with more cabin space and 3 times the helicopter capability (and able to haev DOOR GUNNERS) Valor is just a sideways Chinook with a Huey cabin area!!! Flies faster but no onboard protection and no available protective aircraft to accompany it!!! Bell's FARA won't keep up and neither will the Raider. And, no, the Air Force will not ever partner with the Army to provide escort duty... even if they do an A-10 Redux

Double the speed of a Blackhawk. Less mechanica issues than the V-22. No folding blades or moving engines. No wing storage. Future air refueling probe

Little or no ability to auto depending on phase of flight. unable to glide due to wing surface area being too small. no recovery from a vortex ring state. Slow transition to wing loading. Boeing helped build the V-22 and decided against siding with Bell on this project. Sold all rights off on the AW 609. I'm guessing they know something or they would be involved if they believed it a viable option. On a side note Boeings original design on the tilt rotor concept had vertical engines and only moved the rotors. Interesting now Bell has decided that's the better option. |
