I actually don't remember, despite having one. I thought it was in helicopters with a seating configuration of nine or more. But don't hold me to it. I know where to look it up though. I think, except mostly for medium and heavy twins offshore, having one helps mostly with availability to be assigned under certain employer, contract, or accreditation requirements. |

To fly transport helicopters, you need the highest level of aircraft pilot certification—the Airline Transport Pilot Certificate (ATP). When you get this certification you can pilot aircraft in a carrier service with max gross weight of over 12,500 pounds and/or over nine passengers. |

A private and/or a commercial pilot can be type rated to fly helicopter over 12,500.

You're right, but the FAR says you have to have an ATP. Having a type certificate means nothing if it isn't accompanied by an ATP CERTIFICATE. |

"Scheduled" is the key word. Anybody other then Helijet in Vancouver, BC in North America fly scheduled air services? Cuz on-demand not the same. I've only been required to exercise the privileges of my ATP when using it on a foreign license validation overseas. |

ATP, aka instrument privileges embedded. If you have other category ratings, ATP or Commercial, they may or not indicate instrument privileges or restricted to VFR dependent upon what level of competence proven under examination. |

An ATP certificate is required when acting as PIC under part 121. Under part 135 any scheduled operations or any aircraft acting PIC with greater than nine passengers. Or if the company requires it.
I say under part 135 any scheduled operations because as far as I know under HAA all operations are on demand completely different set of rules.
12,500 pounds does not come in to play for an ATP.
And ATP is also required under part 91K and part 91 fractional if greater than nine passengers and operating for hire. If not operating for hire you could operate a Boeing 747 with a private rating as long as you were typed and not more than nine passengers for hire. If not for hire as many passengers as you like. |

Only thing under Part 91 is that fractional owners (managers) must use an ATP for multi-engine turbine-powered fixed-wing and powered-lift aircraft. Not applicable for helicopters.
There are no Part 121 helicopter scheduled flight operations. See FAR 119.25 |
