Since the ACFT has two transmission , would it be fair to saythat it would twice as likely to have a transmission failure.

That sounds fair to me. I'd ask for what the additional years would be. But that's a great start depending on the level of BS/bureaucracy.

If it is for a fire only position, then the pay is not too bad, though in the lower bracket of average.

 

If it is for vertical reference and construction work, then the pay is in the bottom 20% of what some of the other type 1 orgs are paying. 

 

The 180 days a year is standard. It is basically a 12/12 schedule, which follows the USFS schedule requirements. Question is, what are you doing for the rest of the year when there are no fires.
