A quick look at the job boards show:- AMC need 85 Med Trans need 52 PHI need 35 Metro need 32 That is over 200 and doesn't include all the other companies, stand alone hospital based programs, or non HEMS operations. Where are these pilots going to come from, are flight schools busy with new people looking to be helicopter pilots? Should companies come up with cadet programs from zero time left seat to right seat captain? |

We are hoping to recruit most of the helicopter leaving the military but arent getting enough to replace those pilots who have left us for the airlines. |

They don't really need all that many pilots. In fact they don't really need a lot of the ones that they already have. The companies just post that stuff for psychological purposes. |

There is a major shortage of pilots. Military isn't supplying any because most companies require 2000 hours and Military guys don't have the hours. Flight school is to expensive for rotorwing when you can go fixedwing and make triple the pay. Smatest thing my company did was add $40,000.00 retention bonus if you stay 3 years. Keeps pilots from jumping ship. After 3 years a lot will be looking for more money. Only solution is drones for ems transports. It's coming! |

doubt about the drone thing, as well as single pilot B777 or whatever. Can't believe single pilot large airliner ops are being considered. Might be a good objective, but a very poor potential reality. All it takes is one heart attack. |
