Anybody have any experience with custom molded earpieces for CEPs?

Any advice...vendor, full shell/half-shell, like them/didn't like them?

They're a must for comfort. I had mine made by westone. Full shell. Have a mold made by local audiologist and send them in. Also make sure you get the real deal CEP from cep-USA. You have to email them but they have amazing customer service. I learned a lesson about knock offs from Gibson and Barnes that failed constantly.

the foam tips were very uncomfortable for me. Switching to CME has been great and I can't fly without them. Some people have a hard time getting used to them but stick it out if you do. it's worth it.

Weston ear pieces. I was able to get audiology office to do the molds for free. Get the military cables they last for ever.

Got the Westone from the Carolina outfit.   Great for improved audio (can turn volume way down), mine lasted about 7 fire seasons then wires and molds started to come apart, also the little goldplated connector is a bit fiddly and tends to get the little pinch thingy bent which can cause intermitttend audio.

Don't know about the ones from the NE outfit with the 3.5mm plug but I would imagine that connector lasts longer

Appreciate the advice so far. Can anyone explain how to choose from the "full shell" vs "half shell? Do the half-shell fit better inside helmet ear cups? Is that the advantage?

Westone keeps coming up...were those military supplied or did you buy them commercially directly from Westone?

Thanks

You can buy directly from Westone. There is an order form on their website. There are also instructions for the ear molds. I would recommend printing that and taking to the audiologist if you decide to do the custom ear molds. If not done correctly Westone will reject to imprint and you have to do them over.

I've been using CMEs for several decades and love them. However, I was experencing a broken cable almost every year (at a replacement cost of $200!) but I swithed to a more robust system from ProFlight gear and haven't had a broken cable since.

I got the CME option from tiger performance when I bought my helmet. They were ok, reasonably comfortable, nice and quiet. And then the wire broke after maybe 400 hours of use. Instead of replacing them I am wearing custom molded musicians earplugs under my helmet. I like this option better personally, but sounds like the Westones might be better.
