Most 500Es have the C20B, some have the C20R. I use 28 and 30 but thats conservative. |

I don’t find any difference between the C20B and C-20R fuel burn wise. 25 per hour. Most utility guys use 100 pounds indicated or 1.5 hours on the ground as a limit.
That with standard fuel tank no extender |

weight doesn't matter. amount of power used does. the engine doesn't know how much the helicopter weighs, only what you're asking it to do. IOW, whether you're by yourself or at GW, the fuel burn is the same when using the same power setting. speed is affected though. |

So the c20 engine is using all 420hp at gross weight and empty? Because at gross im asking it to do a lot more than empty? The fuel control wouldn't adjust the fuel scheduled depending on load, which would make weight an issue? Maybe I missed something? |

The fuel control adjusts on how high you raise the lever. The lever IS THE LOAD as far as the engine and rotor is concerned. If you normally fly at 70% or 80% or whatever percent torque, you will burn the corresponding amout of fuel for that torque setting, doesn't matter what you weigh. The engine and rotor system have no idea what the helicopter weighs, it just know what you're asking it to do with collective. Lighter weight may require less power on take off and landing, but it's insignificant in the big picture as hoving and climbs often require lots of power. |

Man we got deep in the weeds. All answers are correct but damn, the guy wants and easy answer. 25-30 gallons per hour friend. Basically 2 hours to empty what you do in those 2 hours is up to you. Straight and level or yard Christmas trees around 10 acres.
That said, I do not recommend more than 1.5 hours for anything |

Sounds like you get 2 hrs plus your 20 reserve.
Not sure how the one pilot comes up with 1.5 hrs. |

What altitude and tempurature would you be operating at? Sea Level & 50 f, average while "working" = 30 GPH, 8000 MSL & 50 f, maybe 24 GPH? |
