Question, do any of the HAA companies offer contract pilot positions for people who may only wish to work 1 seven day hitch every 28 days or so?

There is a huge demand right now. I think if you applied for a float position you may have that option. |

I was a per diem pilot working relief positions. I generally did 7 days a month then off the rest of the month. Prior to that I was a base pilot then full time relief pilot with the company, so I had a good working relationship with the RAM and Area Manager. Union contract limits the amount of part timers in the company. It can be done, but difficult as an outsider. The position lasted a year until the RAD and Denver pulled the plug on it. Good times until then. |

The large HAA company that I work for doesn't hire anyone part time. I don't always agree with it, but even a medic or nurse wanting to step down to part time they don't deal with it. I think there it little demand on the pilot end, also an HR nightmare. From a pilot perspective I wouldn't hire part time anyway. It feels far too much like someone needs a little extra retirement income while finding any excuse to turn down flights and show up ill prepared for check rides, and spread bad morale. I see it all the time with the "I just have a couple years left" guys. I'd rather a base out of service until we find a professional willing to work, than just fill a seat for operations purposes. |

AMC has a "per-diem" pilot option. You work when you want and they only pay you for days worked kind of thing.
Or at least they had it not long ago. |
