I've been scouring the metars all day looking at peak wind. The most I've seen so far is 108 at Punta Gorda. So where is this fictitious 185 mph wind? 6000 agl? |

Winds off shore are higher than those on shore! On shore has stuff slowing winds down. Off shore, no obstacles! Make no mistake...this was a nasty storm that has hurt a lot of people! |

Well, a simple google search inquiring how hurricane wind speeds and metars winds are measured makes it very apparent you are comparing apples to bowling balls. |

A wind tunnel. As a bonus, you don't have to worry much about wind driven debris hitting you at that speed. |
