Any other suggestions for a new helmet purchase or finding a good used helmet? I know about helicopterhelmets.com but I've never bought a helmet before, always used whatever I was issued. My new issued helmet sounds like garbage though so maybe it's time to get something nice.

to spend a couple of thousand dollars on a helmet, don't try to save a couple of hundred with "brand x".

Gibson and Barnes...you get what you pay for.

I've tried all brands of helmet, and found that the same model can fit differently depending on how the selling agent out fits it. It can change with the quality of the liner, ear cups, chin strap etc. Try and find a buddy who had the helmet you like and try it on, (with a skull cap of course :-)

I had a Gentex 4 for years and never reall enjoyed it. Got the 5 which felt like an upgrade but still not great. Tried the Merit LH250 and was blown away. As my eyes required glasses the LH250 didn't work for the visors. Now have an Alpha Eagle and really like it and I can close the visors with my glasses on.

Get the best helmet you can afford with two liners so you can was them often and wear a skull cap to reduce the stink.
