Msg ID: 2742671 Military leave +2/-26

Does any operator offer paid military leave? I believe that Metro doesnt. Seems strange that most pilots come from the military and many are still serving in the Reserves and we have to take unpaid leave to serve while the companies are pounding their chest that they proudly "Support our Troops"

if you work for a company that has union representation, and your contract allows it, you might get paid a contractual amount. Most government employers have some sort of pay for those called up or activated. Example- I am a county employee that is also a reservist. Activated for a year. My military pay was less than my county pay. I was paid the difference between county and militar, so that my military equaled my county. I did not get full pay for both. Every company is different.

It's cheaper to pay a good, skilled employee while they are serving their county than to hire and train their replacement. But you would know nothing about that. Get over it.

Their bloated, and scarily unionized (yes, even government employees have their own union; which allows ridiculous ineptitude to flourish), system allows for paid time when they're on military leave.  Double-dippers.

That's not like the real world at all, so wake up.  The above example of a county paying your difference is an abosulute rarity and is for enlisted guys typically as we all know they get paid doggy-doo in comparison to us.

It just becomes a system to stay hired for eternity; takes an act of congress to get a dirtbag DAC fired.  Plus, although they're government employees, they can't be mandated to do things despite a department of defense need; which is crazy.  They're DoD emplyees.  Not contractors.  They serve at the needs of the military; just a step or so below being active duty.

they're civil service employees, nowhere close to active duty military, they have job descriptions that detail what they can be required to do, and they are not subject to the UCMJ.

There is no "needs of the service" or "other duties as required".  If that doesn't suit your needs, don't ask for DAC slots or funding.  See how that works?

If you are not working? You're already costing the company a boat load of money by not being there. We're already having to pay someone else vertime to cover your shifts. Besides, you're getting paid by the military. And being a military pilot doesn't make you special, you're not as good as you think you are. I can find plenty of civilian trained pilots who are just as good as military pilots.

It is negotiated as a perk of the job.

I have worked places that didn't pay for either.

When they do offer them, they're offered to everyone, not just people with a side-gig for the government

So you need to take off from work so you can work your second job (that's what it is), and you think you should get paid from your first job? In the meantime your employer will pay someone else 1.5 or 2 times their salary to hold your job. Grow up kid.
