a CH-47 spin like that?  I mean, it looks like loss of T/R thrust, but they don't have a T/R.

I noticed the rear rotor tilted hard to the right? I know nothing about the CH-47, but something caused the rear rotor to tilt hard right it appears. I'm sure we have someone here who DOES know and can give us some information.

If it was a C-Box or drive shaft failure the blades would have de-phased and the whole thing would have blown apart on the way down.

Was the bucket empty or full in this video, I can't tell.  Vibrations on the hook are significantly different with a heavy load.  Looked like a respectable three or four seconds before entering auto after recognizing the yaw problem and couldn't tell from the poor image, if any pitch pull was effected at the bottom.

Complete disregard for these families. Nothing is off limits nowdays.

It is not the right thing to do. No, even in the interest of learning the possible cause, training, prevention,...etc. There's a place for that in pilot crew member training environment

What if it was your deceased close family members??

How great it would be to open a link on the ol interwebs and see the last moments before impact.

OK Karen! Does your Mother know you're playing on the computer? NOTHING distatsteful in the post, the video even say's "Will not show the actual crash out of respect for the two pilots and their families!" Also, don't you think the FAMILIES ALSO want to find out? This is life and bad things happen sometimes, especially in Aviation! There is NOTHING disrespectful posted! Now runalong and remember to play nice with others!

Gomer, yes people die. Aviation is inherently dangerous at moments but have to agree with Respect.

Everyone armchair guessing on the cause and posting videos, is not in my view, the best option-

Even if there's a text explanation before posting.

Well, I guess you do not watch the news or any other video format? Again, as the person on YouTube who posted the video on his channel was very specific, he did NOT post the actual impact out of respect! There is NOTHING disrespectful and you would see the EXACT same footage "without the impact" on your evening news! Don't like it, don't click on the link! Man, you Karen's are a trip! Grow up and face the realities of life, it get's ugly sometimes! If this can help OTHERS and or keep them from making the same error or mistake, that's a good thing! Learning from others mistakes is part of making aviation SAFER!

Helicopters, airplanes, and cars crash every day. Unfortunately people die. I just watched a documentary on the Smithsonian Channel about the Concorde crash 22+ years ago. There were multiple videos of the fire and crash where 130+ people died. Should those videos be banned and cable tv stop showing them?

I swear, it's hard to believe Snowflakes with this delicate of mental state are behind the controls of an aircraft! The video simply showed a fully intact aircraft slowly decend and start spinning! No ACTUAL crash footage what so ever and they come UNHINGED! They need to form their own site and call it "Just Snowflakes"! There, they could discuss which pronoun to address themselves by, gender transitioning, how mean management is to them because they wanted them to go fly while they are in the middle of their their video games and which flight suit do they look best in! Geez, these people are seiously warped! Scary to know instead of wearing Captain bars on their sholuder's, the wear their FEELINGS! Woa Woa Woa, Feeeeelllliiinngss!

When confronted with the legitimate question of whether posting videos of watching people die is disrespectful and ghoulish, the supporters of this type of thing always bring up the same old weak excuses:

you are too fragile to handle the "realities" of death and

this is all about "safety". Neither one holds up to any scrutiny.

The only ones that will learn anything are the investigators, not you. Showing this video to anybody else is a not productive. This makes the other point about whether somebody can "handle it" or not irrelevant.

One of the advanced CRM destructive attitudes is the macho attitude. If these kinds of incidents can break down that type of destructive attitude, that would be a very positive outcome.

if you didn't watch a video of a crash, you would probably be inclined to think they do not happen and therefore you are invincible. got it

Since everyone commenting on here you can tell right away has zero experience with the 47 and or a longline for that matter, I can promise you that PIC lack of LL time did not contribute to the accident. They were doomed  when the engines were cut and the pole wasn't put the the floor. Once those blades stalled it was over. They didn't ge the collective down till about 100 in air, and by then it was too late. The spot they landed on the river was also a contributing factor to the outcome, with the bank rising and the weight of the forward gearbox coming down, recipe for a nasty outcome. That's my take. As for the initial spin, I'll leave that to the pros.

To me, looks like one of the AFT Blades lost pitch (pitch change link), perhaps control failure (not drive) to the AFT Head.  AFT Head on it's own without control input (not drive) hench the spin.

then chop chop pieces flying everywhere.  Looking at the vid, kinda looks like one blade on the rear lost it's pitch.  If the long driveshaft failed, the 47 doesn't spin, it chops itself up from the heads de-phasing. Going with load83 assessment.

I've got a few thousand hours in the beast.

The only reason it would spin uncontrollably would be either a control malfunction our hyd problem.

It could easily hover single engine, but if it did have a dual engine failure, which would only be due to bad gas, it still doesn't explain the spin, unless the pilot was so fixated inside he did recognize the spin until it was too late.  That would also explain not reducing the thrust in time also.

RIP
